I just started the spearfishing with my friend for long holiday around Auckland

but have no idea where to go for avalon (paua) or spearfishing.

I saw another guy freediving around jones bay but other people are saying that

around kawau bay is quite dangerous cuz of sharks :(

Can anyone please tell me any safe spot (not marine reserve) for spearfishing for beginner ? and great spot for avalon (paua)

p.s we got no boat or any water ride.

CryCryCryCry

cheers :)

Takatu Point (coast round to the left from Jones Bay) can be OK for spearfishing.  Also look at Ti Point.

You are unlikely to find legal size paua near Auckland.

There is a whole section here on spearfishing - with 1 thread dedicated to the Auckland region.

You'll struggle to find anyone willing to tell you the location of the legendary Arthurian island here. Its a well kept secret.

If you're after paua, come down to Wellington or down to the south island, plenty of spots within walking range
