Who do you guys use for travel insurance including spearfishing, cant get anyone to insure me.

Southern Cross.  I just get normal travel insurance.  Trying to get insurance to cover freediving without going through all the scuba nonsense is a waste of time.  If you want to make sure you are insured no matter what, then have a look at Divers Alert Network.

I had an issue with QBE when I bought their cheap travel insurance online when booking a trip to Tonga.  The wording suggested that stuff that went together (like a camera and a case and lenses) was one item, and there was a limit per item of $500 or something like that.  When someone stole a good poportion of my dive gear, they claimed that it was all part of a set and therefore one item. That was wrong on so many levels, as my mask is not a set with a pole spear, etc etc...  Anyway, ended up in Disputes Tribunal where I did prety well and I got a reasonable amount out of them so overall I was happy enough.
 
Lesson learned, though. Now when I go away I just list all my dive gear separately and send it to my insurance broker with instructions to make sure everything is covered individually.  This seems to cost very little extra (if any at all) on the premium.

Best price, well only price ive had that includes spearfishing on the policy is $138 which includes a $50 premium on one item being worth more than $3000, being vid cam and housing. If i just say snorkelling its about $50 but am i really insured?

no but there perception of snorkelling is probably a little different. Prob go with the snorkelling package.

If you get normal insurance and get bitten by a shark, shot by your mate, hit by a boat you will not be covered.  This is new.

Most insurance companies have recently changed their interpretation of the 'put yourself in danger clause' to include spearfishing, like hunting or skiing off-piste etc.
 
If your credit card won't cover a $50,000+ charter flight home you would be retarded not to get the right insurance.  Remember the company will be actively trying to find reasons they don't have to pay out and non-disclosure is the easiest.

This is what my travel insurance policy says for Raro. Does spearfishing come under the hunting category?

General exclusions of this policy
applying to all sections

We will not pay for any costs or losses arising directly or indirectly from:
14.
•     Professional    Sport    or    individual    and    team    sport    competitions   
   
which
•     contact    sport;   
•     racing
•     motor    sports;   
•     hunting    of    any    sort;   
•     pot-holing    or    caving;   
•     rodeo;   
•     downhill    snow    skiing    or    snow    boarding    (including    competitive    downhill
snow skiing or snow boarding) which happens outside of designated
   
commercial
•     hang
•     ocean    yachting    (being    12    nautical    miles    or    21.6km    or    more    away    from    land);   
•     parachuting    (including    tandem    parachuting),    paragliding,    parasailing,   
bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, blackwater rafting or whitewater
   
kayaking
•     mountaineering    or    rock    climbing    necessitating    the    use    of    ropes;
•     remote    area    touring,    except    as    part    of    a    licensed    organised    tour;
•     underwater    activities    involving    the    use    of    artificial    breathing    apparatus   
unless You hold an open water diving certificate or are diving with a
qualified instructor.

Point is Murder you need to specifiaclly ask about spearfishing. 
 
They don't list it as an excluded activity but there'll be a "putting yourself intentionally at risk" clause in there somewhere which most companies have decided spearfishing, as well as other things such as being in a charter boat, falls under.

A few pulled me up on the "hunting" clause, only after i explained in detail what spearfishing was, some said yes no problem initially not understanding what it was i was talking about. I cant see the point in not fully disclosing or educating them as they would almost certainly wriggle out of it if they could as MJL has stated.

Just got an email back from southern cross, i asked if i was covered:

There is provision under TravelCare to cover you for unexpected injury while spear-fishing or snorkelling overseas.
 
You do not need to specify your equipment unless an individual item or set of items is valued at more than $2000.  Please note sporting equipment is covered if unexpectedly damaged, lost or stolen while in transit, however not while in use.

Cost $47 for two people.
