I was in Samoa recently and we had a good session on poppers/chuggers , Glen caught this good 50 lb fish,   I also use stickbaits. I tried about 15 other lures and we still using the one we caught the great catch on had no other catches.

I have 10k and 20 k Stella FA on Rod Works rods,  lots of poppers/chuggers and stickbaits (as we all know the shops will sell what they want) but found that 1 popper stood out on the occasion.

On a trip to Fiji some years ago I caught a good fish using a custom made chugger, by Anglers paridise / Jim & Conrad Sears.

My question is what is the difference between a Chugger and Popper, as i know it the stick bait is pointy and rounded and pulls through the water easy and therefore must be visual so no white water makes it a target.

Is the big splash of a chugger the way to go , or are the pencil poppers the way of the future.

What is the correct way to call a big cupped faced wooden lure ???? a popper or a chugger????

thanks for helping

Chuggers / Bloopers etc... are what GT fisherman have coined "Large Poppers".

Guy's in the bass scene still call smaller poppers chuggers too, so I don't think it matter's... Some have that really classic "thwuck" when popped so that may explain the name.

It is said the big splash from a large popper gets the attention of the biggest GT's, but small lures also catch big fish...
