Chaps any feedback on the Shimano Rods?
They have a range out there now:
3-6 2  Piece
5-8 1  Piece
5-10 2 Piece

I'm thinking the 5-X range in particular

Many Thanks

I have a 5-10 2 piece overhead and it is fantastic. Very versatile. It is a very light rod while being extremely strong and sensitive. It doubles as my bait fishing rod when required as well. I have a Curado 201DHSV loaded up with 20lb braid mounted on it, perfect match.
I bought a Synit GTR a while back so the T-Curve spends a lot of time just coming on trips as a back up but everytime I break it out I am reminded of what a great rod it is. Can't go wrong with Shimano.
No half measures!

Never tried one but I'll take Ians word for it if I was you, he certainly gave that shark over the bar a bloody good pulling a while ago LOL I stick to the cheaper & very versatile Daiwa range Wink Whats the majority of the fishing you gonna do, shallow or deep (40mtrs plus) whats 5x, tried to google but ??? if it at least goes to 8kg then that should be oki doki.

Thanks for the feedback all.

Monty,
I meant the 5-8 or 5-10 rods  when I said 5-X.
I am looking for a deeper water set-up and the ability to flick slightly larger weights out in faster drifts/deeper water.
I have a Starlo Tournament  Pro 3-6 which I will use for the lighter/shallower work.
Investing in some decent braid also as I have realised what I have been using has been effecting my sink rate.

Thats cool, & dont forget the correct braid for which ever style reel you use is important too.

I've got the 5 - 10kg one - its now my favourite rod in the stable - really whippy, but heaps of grunt in the butt section.

Kezza,
Just the reel I am thinking of; wondering if it worth the leap from the stradic/saragosa...

I have just that combination Kezza, absolutely magic! One of the best buys that I have done. Am now looking at getting something slightly heavier for deeper water softbaiting, would love a Daiwa Pluton, but will probably have to settle for a Luna instead.Unhappy
Have boat - must fish!

River - I don't think you'll be disappointed with either of those two reel options mate.....I've caught plenty of good fish on my old Symetre 2500 and 3-6kg backbone but nowadays I like the grunt that the tcurve and twinpower combo offers.....was taught to not play with my food....plus I really enjoy casting small stick baits/poppers and sluggos to kingis on the surface which that combo does real well.....had encounters with horses and know should I hook one on the Tcurve/TP4000 I'll at least have a good chance of landing it.

work out your budget then go from there.....

I have got the 3-6 2 pce overhead with a daiwa luna 253.  The rod is great for such a light rod the butt section has huge reserves for the biggies while the tip is super sensitive.  have had some nearly legal rats on and won the fights.  Dont rate the daiwa luna too highly though it has a tendancy to struggle to go into gear from freespool when a good fish hits and runs and dont like the tiny low profile reels too much either saving my coin for a trini 12 or similar to replace the luna.

Ive got the 300 Luna & you are quite right they hate going into gear when something hits, so I have taught myself how to get it into gear by clamping spool quickly before rod loads up, turning handle to get into gear & holding on. I am now spooling up the old sl20sh & my new sl30shb with braid to use as a heavy softbait sets. These are gonna kick some butt now LOL sorry for spamming a shimano topic Embarrassed
