This fly originated from the vice of Bob Jepson. I was looking for a pattern that would swim erratically and imitate a small eel and this seemed to fit the bill. Have used it on Inner Ak. Harbour reefs and it gets picked off by most everything that swims and that you'd want to catch.

Back, Tail - Olive rabbit strip, tied in 'upside down' at eye of hook and folded back.
Belly, tail - White bucktail, tied in butts reversed (i.e. tips extend beyond eye of hook) then folded back. Secured midway along hook shank with red thread.
Expoxy head with thin coat, dry, add eye, epoxy again.

Oh yeah, forgot to say, you can experiment with the length of the head by tying the materials down further forward or back, depending on what floats your boat.

I've seen this fly around but havenm't fished it. I'm guessing it would have heaps of actions and push some water too... might have to get to the vice tonight... Smile

Thanks Nick.

Very Neat fly there Nick. What Epoxy are you using on the head? I am having no end  of trouble with Bubbles after mixing. Guess I should fold the two parts together instead of stirring it. I am sure that fly will end up in my "TO DO" File.  Jax

Hi Jax I'm using clear Araldite, bubble avoidance can be achieved by as you say folding with very tip of a pin or toothpick, plus if you take a hair dryer to the expoxy as fly is rotating the bubbles will surface and be eradicated. I'm not getting too many problems of late, think it's because weather is so hot.

Have seen it before but didn't know if it would work in NZ waters, thanks Nick for putting my mind at rest on this one - will definately try the pattern now.
