Just used a home made fly instead of a softbait Nuclear Chicken, about the same size and similar colours with a bit more flash and it worked beautifully, hoping this will cut my softbait costs in half or more!

Flies got hit same or more than the softies, Nuclear Fly and a sparkly blue deciever, bring on the savings  $$$  Maybe I will be able to adfford that Sage FLi #12 afterall haha

My fly fyinh skills are pretty basic as I have only done a few, anyone keen to knock one up and link some photos here with steps on how to make it?

Cool Uncle!
I will try and post some photos but it said I couldn't do it last time I tried as I didn't have permissions.

It was a few wraps of lead wire covered in red chenille, silver flashabou strips which trail out the back, green  marabou body with green flash stuff ontop and 2 red feathers on the top.  About 3-4 inch long

Managed to post them first time, not sure why i had some much trouble before...  Thats for the offer though Uncle much appreciated.  These are duplicated in the walkabout forum too where I was following on from a beach caster who was using them.

I used the bottom 2 of these on the trip, each got pretty well smashed, the middle one was hit so hard to bent the softbait clip.

All three are using Mustad stainless hooks.
Top fly is red chenille body with lead wire over, under wing is crystal flashabou under white marabou (turkey feathers) topped with green flashabou.

Mid fly is stainless barrel eyes and lead wrapping to around 4mm.  Green flashabou on the underside of the hook, crystal with a couple of strips of tinsel over that and a wing of red marabou then covered with red chenille for bulk in the water.

Bottom fly is stainless eyes, bulk of the body is white deer hair with a blue flashabou top wing.

These are some of my others using similar materials.  You should be able to see the holographic mylar poking out the end of the green and white of the second fly down.
3rd and 4th flies with done with wings both left and right of the hook using curved feathers with a pretty solid quil to give extra bulk in the water with addtional colour and sparkle to the central body and tail.
3rd fly has a mottle blue feather wing (from Spotlight in the hobby section, not the best shopping in the world but some good bargains if you are on a budget) plus 2 long blue/black barred feathers and some blue flashabou.
4th fly is a simple red feather over white marabou with pearl flashabou under, lead eye for a bit of weight.
