Ohh mate tell me about it I've got stuff yet to fully set after 6 hours. I put a couple flies by the fire and the epoxy went soft again!!!

Nick, the stuff softens when it reaches 60C when set but if I remember correctly this limit is lower if it hasn't fully set up.   But it will set up harder then ever afterwards (its called post curing and is often done for surfboards & kayaks etc)

Used some urethane sealant on a couple I tied up last week.  Same sort of stuff as Aquaseal but 1/2 the price.  Figure it will feel more realistic then hard epoxy when a fish takes and it is much easier to use (wet fingers can shape it). May not last as long but I will most likely loose them on a rock behind me before the fish destroy them Embarrassed

That looks like a killer pattern for Seatrout in the estuaries also Si.
So its cold down under hmmmm here its in the mid 20 and the mayflies
are hatching. Torture isnt it?Wink

1/0 are my smallest, off to Rod n Reel on Saturday to pick up the bucktail they ordered for me so will get some smaller ones then.  The biggest problems I have had with flounder is seeing them before they scoot!  Need to be out on a mirror flat day it seems or I need my eyes checking!  Much easier at night with a light and spike if you are after a feed thats for sure haha.
Good to know they work, just need to reproduce it now!  Will post a photo and you can give me marks out of 10...

That's a realistic looking shrimp! I don't have epoxy but may try using Pearl Ezy Shape Sparkle Body instead.

What else do Flounder eat Clark? Bit of a mystery to me their feeding habits. When you say small - how small is small for them?

I have found flounder really aggressive and eat anything small (#8 and smaller) that gets in their range. Shrimp, small fish, small crabs etc.. so general impressionistic patterns all work and one mate uses bead head hare and Coppers to effect.

Thanks for that Clark, will make some of them - do you have to use hooks especially made for saltwater? or can you use a #8 trout hook for Flounder?

Now a wee question here, what hooks do you generally use for your saltwater flies? the bigun's I mean, is TMC 811S good? and if it is, do you know what sizes the hook ranges in? I am having trouble finding both Mustad saltwater and TMC saltwater hooks where I am. Thanks for this info Clark.

I use Tiemco exclusively for Freshwater but, apart from the 600SP will not touch them on salt. Had way too many breakages on them... well to put that in perspective, I was warned early on that TMC sWF hooks break... I doubted it as they hadn't failed me ever in fresh... after three break offs (At the end of the shank) on Kings I stopped using them. I now use Gamakatsu almost exclusively in salt the SL12 is my favored hook for bait-fish style patterns. The "Si-wash" for small stuff (I tie my flounder flies on these though freshwater hooks are fine, just rinse the snot out of them afterwards or they'll rust).
 
I also like the SP11 Gamakatsu for smaller hooks where more metal is required.

I have just been told that TMC 811S hooks are way out of my price range anyway Clark, but after reading what you have said, will definately look into these hooks you are using now.
