The two reels have different gear ratios and are meant for different purposes. A better comparison to the Stella 20000 is the Saltiga Expedition 6500 - both of which are around the 4:1 gear ratio. The Saltiga Dogfight is the high speed version of the Expedition and better compared to the Stella 10000 both of which are approximately 6:1 ratio.

For jigging the slower 4:1 gearing is best while for popper fishing 6:1 seems to be the most preferred.

Both brands are top of the line and it comes down to personal preference. They both have their pros and cons. I’ve owned all of the above at one time or another and I have a slight leaning towards Saltiga. In NZ the Stella is better value for money though.

If you're into jigging then there is a good selection of rods available to match the 20000 or EXP 6500. For the money the Jigging Master Power Spell 500 is a good proven rod that would perfectly suit these two reels. Some guys have a strong leaning towards high-end Japanese rods such as Smith, Sevenseas or Carpenter, however you'd have to import these yourself.

CONFIDENCE: The feeling you have before fully understanding the situation.

Not that I have any intention of buying one, but how does the Van Stall reels stack up against the compitiiton. They certainly are ugly looking things.

My mates got a VS, and he hates it! He swears bout it all the time.
Although he did buy the one without a bail arm and it's really weird to use. I've not caught anything other than a foul hooked maomao on it though...
