Hey guy's,
 
I am looking at buying a jig rod and wondered what are the options?
Don't mind spending a bit on it i.e. $300 to $350ish( sorry Chris and others - can't afford $700 plus for one)
 
Has anyone used any of the Shimano rods? Are they up to scratch? What about the kilwell ones?
 
I am going to put a Duel speedy20 (Thanks Grunta - landed a few up to 15kg and been wiped out by several larger ones - hence the new rod) on it and will run either 24 or 37kg braid.
 
Sound right?
 
Also are the rods any good for using for anything but jigging? It would  be good if i could multi tack it a bit to stop the rapid collection of gear that i am accumulating. It is a bit embarrasing turning up to fish with a mate with 6 or 8 sets in tow.

The shimano deepjig 400 will definatly do the job its in your price range and will run 50 or 80lb braid while its action is not as efficiant as the more expensive japanese jig rods its is a good compromise i have caught kingis up to 35kgs on mine no complaints at $329.

Jigging Master rods are where its at,too many reports of Tcurves craping out,other rods dont even cum up to being called a jig rod.

The Okuma VS rods are worth looking at.

Nicer action than the Tcurves IMO. Handle 30lb of drag OK but its the upper limits. Ive pulled about 35lb on a scale but the line started touching the blank. Only thing I would like to see on them is a palming grip, but then again, they are cheap so cant expect everything for nothing.

Finish is pretty decent, and the guides are all Fuji.

Ill post a couple of pics of the working curve when I get home.

About 270 new. Ive got 2 im using until I wrap my JM400. Caught some good fish with it.

Go the speedy! Solid piece of gear. Grease the washer as soon as you get it. It comes dry and is bloody hopeless after about a fish. I used some heavy grease I found in the shed, probably do well to use something a bit flasher (Cals, or shimano).

Oh yeah, and I use it for trolling, puka fishing, and snapper and tarakihi fishing (dont expect it to bend thoughConfused)

Look at the Berkley dropshot 15-30kg rods. They work for me... and only half the price too.

The JM Terminator rods shouldn't be too far away. They're less expensive than the Power Spells but nearly their equal from what I've read. Anyway, Chris will no doubt provide you with the details.

The JM Terminator rods are a bit late in arriving.  TC400 will sell around $450.  Plenty of time to save up that extra hundy over the next couple months Thumbs%20Up

Thanks for the info. I will do some research but you might be right Chris - an extra hundy isn't too much to save..... (any ideas how i convince the other half about that?????)
 
Do you have any idea when the Terminator rods are getting here?
 
Benk - do you just have to lightly coat the drag washers, rub it in hard or ???on the duel? I also have the problem with the rod i have had it on not being able to clamp up tight on the seat. Has anyone got a good fix for tha tother than jamming something in there to pack it out. I take it that most jig rods are designed for smaller reel seats?

I coated them, gave it a bit of a rub in, then wiped ALL excess off, it pretty much looked the same as when I pulled it out but the performance is streaks ahead. Smooth as anything Ive felt/used. I think I lost some overall top end of the drag (which is normal) but what the use of high drag if its sticky as buggery right.

Cant really think of anything to pack out the reel seat. Just make sure it fits snugly into the new rod, which Im sure it will if its fuji and the right size. Maybe try wrapping a few mm of electrical tape around the reel seat and see if you can make it a bit more snug that way. I mean its only a temp until your new rod right...

The Penn Torque range of jig rods will be available in stores next month and there are 4 different rods which would suit what you are looking for.
 
The Torque range of jig rods are built on spun woven high modulus burgundy coloured graphite blanks with and feature an integrated solid carbon tip. The all have Fuji reel seats and either have Fuji SiC or Alconite guides (The 1pc rods have the SiC guides and the 2pc have the Alconite guides). They are finished with burgundy overbinding and metallic gold trim.
 
The models that would suit what you are looking for are the....
 
TRQ201 - 5"6 - 1pc - 15-24kg
TRQ202 - 5"6 - 2pc - 15-24kg
TRQ301 - 5"6 - 1pc - 24-37kg

I bought a Kilwell Speedjig 56 today $400.00. I pulled 15kg on the scales at the shop, no probs. Should match my Torsa 16 nicely.

Just need a chance to get out and use it now!

Hi Chris whats the difference in the terminators to the rest of the Jigmaster range,Are the actions similar and wot is the price of the power spells?

Terminator rods are a low price version of the equivalent Power Spell.  The Power Spell is a new name for its top-end rods previously just known as "Jigging Master" (JM) rods.  The Power Spell name differentiates between itself and the new Terminator range.  Terminator rods are slightly heavier and almost as strong, their lifting power is still enormous.  They use Fuji reelseats, guides and built with the same quality and bling as the Power Spell rods.
Currently the Power Spell 400 sells for $650 while I'm guessing the Terminator 400 would sell around $450. 
 
The blanks are built on the same mandrel but use different quality elastic graphite.  Therefore the blank actions would be very similar.  Can't wait to get them in!
