Going to be visiting NZ for the first time and would love to catch some fresh seafood along the way! I can't seem to find info on if traps I've used up in BC are legal for crabs and crays in New Zealand. I have a few of the castable bait cages that have mono loops that function as nooses, and snare the legs when you start reeling in. I also have a few castable folding crab traps, the kind that are a big square of netting that lay flat on the sea floor, then snap shut when you reel in (like this.  https://www.amazon.com/AirFly-Foldable-Castable-Crab-Rectangle/dp/B08CZH5VTT/ref=asc_df_B08CZH5VTT?mcid=cfe5243ee60a3daa868e626c1d59e238&hvocijid=10515625316135141507-B08CZH5VTT-&hvexpln=73&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=730434177080&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10515625316135141507&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030533&hvtargid=pla-2281435178378&th=1).   Is potting really the only way to legally catch landbased cray? It doesn't seem like what I have would count as a bated net, which is the only thing I can find in the regulations, but want to be sure.
Thank you for any help!

The cray pot rules are fairly standard but some of the catch rules change from different areas.
Don't think there are any crab rules - but our crabs are a bit difefrent to what you may be used to.,

Yeah , like with our crabs you need 10 for a feed but with some of yours youd get 10 feeds off one crab Big smile
We got king ( Ithink ) crab legs once  , got 6 shaved legs  ( shaved meant that  the shell had been cut most of the way thru )  . the main bit of flesh from  one leg was about 10" long and 1" in dia  and by the time Id noshed that  I was in trouble  ..... lookin at the other 4 1/2 whole legs   ,coz the handbrake had bailed  on the 1st section of the 1st leg ..... bloody lightweight Tongue  , kinda reminded me of when I ate a whole kilo of scallops . Takes a couple of days to get past that overload LOL
I wish I was young again .... Id be heaps smarter than this time

Today was the 1st day of the season . There were a few guys  heading out of Riverton.
Hate to think what they will cost this year . I usually pre order 5 doz live in the shells , they taste so much better than the rinsed out pottle jobs , AND strangely  I think the ratio of big oysters is better too .Smile
