Hi it depends on your budget. A 2nd hand Viking or Oceankayak Prowler would be preferable. Look on Facebook marketplace for good deals.

Kayak market is quite subdued with Old Town/Ocean Kayak pulling out of NZ and the fire at the Viking factory. Old Town make some great pedal kayaks, but they are very expensive. I did have a semi-serious look at the Wave Passion kayaks and owners say they are fine if you're well within the maximum stated carrying capacity.

That brands website has a dedicated fishing pedal kayak which is $1600 (sold out) Ive seen a few of these on the water, but not in rough water conditions

I am guessing the 1200 pedal kayak you're looking at would have stability issues being more of a recreational kayak compared to a fishing pedal kayak

You really need to get on to the facebook kayak fishing pages & ask there. Ive read a few reviews on that brands pedal drive kayaks, both negative & positive.... interesting tho is that some owners didn't like using them in the rough

Inquire about the warranty on the pedal drive mechanism itself & individual parts for servicing
