Any idea as to how long a life I should expect out of a good quality (ie $500 + for a 6m) boat cover? This is the "all over" type not a fitted road cover. Will be sitting outside all the time.

I've heard anywhere from 1-3 years for a basic commerical one, and up to 10 years for a custom sunbrella cover. Could be a lot more if you park the boat out of direct sun as UV is the killer.

I got my last one on TM from Cover World NZ. Had been on the boat for 8 years and still going strong when I sold the boat a month or so ago.
Got it in a $1 reserve auction - think i paid 150-200.
Roger who runs the company is bloody good to deal with.

I'm squeezing 4 years for mine, but it is definetly due for replacement. 3yrs would be max before noticing deterioration

Yep mine is coming up 3 years and have noticed some moisture seepage - also some powdery discharge when its dry and you give it a good shake.

Yep I tried all types Traps, cheap cover, and then custom - Had the super cheap option, lasted about 18 months for $160 I think.

I now have a full custom cover, heavy duty, storage only - non road ( can't really do both) cost was about $1800 from memory.

Zero water has got through, and had some terrible rain.....comes with a decent warranty think it was 10 year, so is about the same as you buy a new cheap cover every year.

Biggest thing is how it does NOT rub on things. I have done tarps etc, not worth your time in my opinion.

It it looks like it comes down to about $150 a year - whether you buy a cheaper (say $100 - $150) cover and replace each year, or spend say $500 and replace every 3 years.
