Hey all I’m new to fishing current using TLD 15 and Auratus 6”6 10-15kg rod love the setup, I just use the basic black magic snapper rigs, I’m wanting to try out some different ways, I was thinking of getting a Shimano 6000D Baitrunner so I can cast it out the back I am unsure of ways I can rig it though I have seen Strayline, am I able to use sliders or jigs I’m interested in them ? Any feed back would be good cheers

Hey,
it's not a bad set up to start with.
OK size line your using ie: breaking strain? using nylon or braid?
Have your own boat?
youtube clips a great place to start for rigs. learn the uni knot great all rounder.
so you can tie your own rigs. Straylining is easy to do, can tie 2 hooks straight to your main line or make a 1-2 hook trace using 40lb fluoro, black magic have a few options here, your local tackle dealer can steer you in the right direction for all the above.
Yes you can use sliders & jigs too.... but better to use a set up just for that & so the acquisition of gear begins LOLyou can do both slider & stray with a 6000D  but I would prob drop to a 4000 size.... Hooks: I prefer gamakatsu circles 8/0 & octopus, just personal preference for straylining, running & dropper rigs. Out there to catch good fish..... strayline use 1/2 - 2oz sinkers depending on current, I don't like fishing over a rocky bottom, can lose a fair bit of gear...

Good Luck out there...

Go down to a 4000D, 20lb braid, Shimano Shadow X Spin 6-10kg. Will make a great strayline or ledger rig setup, and will fish Sliders OK if you want to give them a go.

Jigging is a bit more of a specialist gear kinda game. I mean you can fish a jig with just about anything, but you'll catch more fish and enjoy it more on the correct setup.

Hey thanks for the replies, I have got 30pound nylon on it, my brother has a boat we started with a rod each then borrowed couple more all over the top reals with black magic snapper rigs dropers just ended up in a big tangled mess haha, I know you can cast with the tld but havnt mastered the technique without getting a bird nest so that’s why i was looking into getting a Baitrunner to cast out the back out of the way, will look into the 4000d with braid line, another question is that I use snapper rig droppers with kl hooks generally holding rod all the time, if I get another rod to cast out the back what hook or setup can I do so I can leave it there without having to go between rods on every bite

Thanks team

Baitrunner is perfect for putting in the rod holder, set the secondary drag and click it in and just listen out for it. Get a bite, pick the rod up, click the baitrunner switch (or just turn the handle), let the rod load up. Easy.

The trick for a rod left in a rod holder is to use circle/recurve hooks, these help the fish to hook itself rather than needing to be "struck" - rigs using a hook like the Black Magic KL are perfect for this.

Sweet as thanks for that and also you mentioned a 6 to 10 kg rod is that a good weight to hold a big snapper? does length of the rod mean much or is it more of a preference I like the length of my current rod, I just see there a lot of different length and kgs

6-10kg is a nice middle-ground, it's not a broom-handle but also will give you a fighting chance against most fish, including smaller Kingfish. You would be surprised just how hard you can pull on a 6-10kg rod and 20lb braid.

A longer rod helps you to lob baits out, and generally will be a little more sensitive as the taper/action of the rod is longer so the tip is more flexible. It is a preference thing though.

Some great advice from John Ra and Rozboon there. I have a fair few rods and reels similar to your TLD setup and I seldom use them for snapper fishing now as I prefer much lighter gear. Casting big baits to big snapper in the shallows however still requires the sturdy gear.
