Calcutta 150 issue?

Have recently purchased a second hand Calcutta 150 and was wondering if the level wind on this model does not operate when in free spool or when loosing line off the drag.?
I have a 400B and the level wind operates when ever the spool rotates.
Any help much appreciated.
