Not sure where to post this either here or in the tech forum so if i have it wrong apologies.

I have a stella 10000PG does anyone know if it is possible to change the gearing to higher, it could be a cheaper option than buying another reel for topwater i dont use the PG for jigging.

Many thanks Craig

Hey Craig, I don't know if you can change the gearing in your Stella or not but I'm guessing it wouldn't be cheap.
The PG is definitely more suited to jigging than topwater but I reckon you can adjust your sweep/action to accommodate the shorter retrieve. IE. instead of 2 turns of the handle on a high ratio reel, 3 turns on a lower ratio reel will result in a similar total retrieve and a fraction longer in the pause position for the lure.
Or sell your PG reel and buy a HG reel.
Good luck with it all mate, either way topwater fishing is a lot of fun...

Cheers for that PE Pete, yes its just a little more work than my other setup, although doubles as my Livebait gear, it has the JM 16000 spool with power handle. 35kg of drag.
Top water and livebaiting go hand in hand for me and so much fun.

Which series Stella?

I have looked into this for a couple of other reels before and it was just a matter of swapping out the main and pinion gears. Relatively involved job and a little north $200 of parts, if you had someone else do it you would probably be looking at around $300 including a service of the reel.
