Please do not Judge me, but i am going to catch a marlin, and i am going to keep it.
Having recently caught my first marlin, on a charter, i have decided it is time to try getting a marlin from my boat.
But here is my question
What is the best way to "send him to his maker" ?
Having see how it was done on the charter, .38 calibre hand gun to the head, "Kill em all and let god sort it out" as the skipper said, this not an option open to me.

What is the Best NZ method ?

Thanks

I'm sure their are a few different methods used.On the couple i have kept the welcome aboard bat to the top of the head has done the trick. They were stripys fished with light guage and wind on leaders so gaff wasint required in those cases.

Charter was out of Hawaii (Kona)
Was to be a catch and release only trip as we had no way to keep the fish.
I am sure the skipper had a buyer lined up within minutes of landing the fish
But yes, no complaints from me as a client.

I have used a 10 inch iki stick worked really quickly. Behind and above the eye is a soft spot and it does in very easily.

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken

A hit on top of the head between the eyes with a bat or weighted stick will do it really fast.

Weight in your bat with a considered precise blows will yield the result your looking for.

They are usually fairly rooted when they arrive at the boat. The flying gaff and subsequent blood loss usually does the trick

I had thought about a gun, but taking a gun on a jet ski to shoot a marlin is even more daft than going marlin fishing on a jet ski in the first place!

Wooden baseball bat drilled out and filled with lead makes a good swede smaker.
