Hi everybody. I am wanting to purchase an overhead jigging setup for kingfish around hauraki gulf. Probably going to jig around 50m mark with 250g jigs, give or take (please correct me if weight range is wrong). Currently in trademe I can see someone is selling a synit venom 250 and saltiga z40 for $850, which is roughly the budget I have in mind. Would this setup be suitable or are there better options? Any advise would be appreciated as I have now fallen in love with speed jigging

If you are wishing to do speed jigging....then you would be better off with a reel with a high ratio....to really get the jig moving at speed........If you want to do mechanical jigging 4 to 1 approx ratio is ideal...250/300 gram jigs will be less demanding on you and a good size......pe6 ..The above set would be a lot of fun and ideal for what you want to do but would not be at home in "Tiger country" like the three kings/ranfurly etc. but for gulf kings......get into it........you never regret buying quality.

I believe in do it once do it right and buying high quality. Id love to fork out around 2k for a set to suit 3 kings etc but cant justify spending that much yet as such trip wont happen for at least few years due to family commitment.
One thing I am getting a little confused on is that whats the difference between speed and mechanical jigging?

No one speed jigs anymore, that was a term for winding like hell to get the kingies excited. mechanical jigging gets the jig moving fast with rod and reel action.
The Synit combo on TMe would be perfect for Hauraki Gulf kingies

Thaks mate I was meaning mechanical jigging in that case I thought they were the same thing. Might invest in that combo and save up for a 3 kings set later down the track

Kaveman...hahah I dont think jiggers could survive that speed jigging anymore.......it used to be a very effective technique but the tip of your rod would be nervous !LOL
poster.....good score...sure you will enjoy that combo.Wink

The set arrives couple days ago. In mint condition would almost have believed if it was sold as new. Just need to find time to use it!
