The TAC 12 has twice the drag (40lbs vs 20lbs) of the TAC 10 which should be more than enough. The purists will tell you the Talica is not a dedicated jigging reel, with no Anti Reverse Bearing you will experience a little bit of back-play in the handle. The Talica is however still a very good reel and will certainly get the job done on kings.

12 single speed runs 2 anti reverse dogs and a infinite anti reverse bearing and is made for jigging.

2 speed reels dont run the a/r bearing hope that helps with your decision

We run Talica 12s on the boat and have found them to be awesome for kingfish.

Couldn't you upgrade the 10 to increase the drag? 10 is a lot lighter.

Are you mainly live baiting Captn Phil? What rod are you pairing the 12 with?

talica is just the the american model of the JDM Jigger LD in a bigger range of sizes. so itll be good for jigging. if i was you id go the 12 single speed for the extra drag and then put a torsa handle arm for a bit of extra length and comfort for when jigging

We are both live baiting and jigging with the Talica 12s.
We've got them paired with Shimano Energy Concept PE 3-6  rods and they're proving to be a great all round combo.
So good in fact, that if I get a chance to throw a bait at a marlin with one, I won't be shying away.
