HI everyone,

I need some advice on buying a jigging reel.

I'm currently in Japan and heading to the Osaka fishing show next month to try and ruin my bank balance Wink.

The goal is to buy a decent overhead jigging setup. I usually fish around mayor and the alderman's with the occasional white island mission.

I'm thinking about an Ocea jigger 4000/5000 at the moment however I've heard they have drag problems and are hard to come by as they are no longer made. I have found a few in Japan for very reasonable prices.

What other options are in the market for Japanese brands. Shimano Diawa etc. I have also looked at the smaller Ocea jiggers (2000) that are new to the market but they seem a bit small.

If anyone has any experience in the Japanese market or can give some advice that would be awesome.

Cheers.

Ocea Jiggers dont have drag problems. They have 15kg of smooth drag straight out of the box and will last for several hundred fish. And yes I have a brand new unused one in the box for sale for $600

Hi Dean, I've never bought gear offshore so can't really advise you on that matter but some things to maybe consider are will the warrantee transfer to this country, can you get parts for servicing here & would you be liable for GST or other such fees when you bring it home? Good luck at the expo sounds like it could be tough on ya credit card.

Hi Accident Prone,

Sounds like a good option if I can`t find one at the show. Was it purchased in NZ? Does it have a warranty?

cheers.

Thanks for the advise.

I hadn't thought about the warranty transfer. Definitely something to find out about before I buy anything. its definitely going to  be tough on the credit card, the bank will be stoked.

Cheers.
