Hi everyone!!
So, in the few jigging trips I made so far, I connected the the leader to the split-ring with a offshore knot (at least it's what they call that knot here), but I'm not sure if it is the best knot...
Which knot should I use, or would you guys advice me?

Cumpliments to everyone ;)

Welcome to the forum Pedro.

It is not usual to tie leader directly to the split ring because the sharp edges can damage the leader knot. It is preferable to tie to a solid ring which is connected to split ring.

You should keep using the knots you are comfortable tying. I use the Chain Knot which consists of a series of alternating half hitches. This knot does not burn or stretch the leader causing damage.

You might also want to use some Jigstar knot sleeve over you leader at the point of connection to the solid ring. As Chris has stated never tie to your split ring.

Agree with Chris, use a solid ring connected to a split ring  which you connect to lure. AG chain knot is good but you can use a Uni knot if you are more comfortable using that and yes knot sleeve is good insurance when tying knots to metal rings

Thanks for the advice.Smile
If I'm to put the sleeve, should I put the sleeve over the knot and the top part of the solid-ring? Or just on top of the knot?
Can someone put a pic of how it should be?
Thanks again, really ;)

Hi roscoes, I already did the knot, my question was about the sleeve.
If I'm to put the sleeve in the knot, should it cover the top part of the ring too? Or should it just lie on top of the knot and not cover the top part of the ring?

hi...

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing when we talk "sleeve". I have just done a quick Kevlar sleeve and partial AG chain knot to an oval ring to show you. The Kevlar sleeve just protects the mono leader from any damage as it goes around the ring.

You may be referring to a sleeve that protects the rod tip from any damage sustained by having the ring/swivel retrieved through the top guide?

regards
Ross

Shrink tube sleeve is too soft and will tear during the knot tying process. The sleeve in roscoes photo is red coloured, and is like hollow Dacron or hollow Spectra. Cut a 2-3cm length of sleeve and pass it down the leader. Position the sleeve around the metal ring or grommet, then tie the Chain Knot or Uni knot. The sleeve protects the leader when it is in contact with any thing metal.

Chris, in Roscoes 1st image he has put the hollow protection around the grommet. I don't bother when I'm using one of your grommets - i just tie the mono straight around the grommet. What are your thoughts in this situation?

Sorry to take so long to respond Pete.
I still use the Knot Sleeve even when tying to the Grommet. Even using heavy fluorocarbon leaders, I have still experienced the odd busted knot at this point. Some fish just don't wanna be landed!

I don't know the forst thing about jigging but have meesed with a knot I call The Terminator (name of the guy's boat  who taught me the knot). It is simply twice around the ring then fifty turns up and fifty down a half hitch either side and finished off with a double hitch.

Has anyone used that for jigging? Maybe it will come undone but it survived hundreds of albies (ok 20 or so) on 15kg and a marlin.

Benjamin knot SmudgeWink, good gamefishing knot but takes a bit of tying. AG chain knot is still the best for jigging especially when using flurocarbon leader
