Hi all after two kingfish jiging trips I,m now looking to refine my set up, do any of you use wind on leaders ie tying a bimmi double in the main line ( braid ) then connecting a wind on leader loop to loop, are i on the right track with this, hate tying the fg knot, look forward to your thoughts, thanks.

Wouldn't personally PR Knot is not as difficult as it first looks & done well give 100% knot/line strength!
Tight lines

No troubles using wind ons at all

Pros
> easy to connect
>premade so no lost time reconnecting in hot bite
>easy to have and change to  multiple leader weights
Cons
>you still have to tie a "perfect "double to attach to windon if you want anything close to 100% knot
> PR knot is prefered(rather than FG, especially for jigging) and PR is as close to 100% knot if tied well(FG is 80-85% at best)
>knots are way cheaper than windons

IMO, learn to tie PR knots wellWink they are the shizzzzzzzzzzzzz when it comes to jigging

PS, i make windon leaders for sale, BUT i  dont use them for jigging. For popping/stickbait setups, they are great but that is another storeyLOL

Twisting braid causes degradation of the fibers that are its strength. I don't like biminis in braid, for me it seems to create a weak point ( fibers are loaded at different rates over the course of multiple bends) I think serving the main line through hollow braid wind on or PR & FG knots are a better option, that are stronger

I used to do that all the time until i read that 8 carrier braid doesnt like getting twisted like that and weakens the join...seeing as i liked to use YGK X8 jigman....it was time to learn the PR.......but i never had a failure........
the pros for me
1.I could tie a bimini and re leader quicker with above...than tying a PR knot....one skip turned around and couldnt believe how quick i was rigged up.
2.At the end of the day...if the leader was low...i could undo the leader and put a new leader on and leave the bimini double there.
3.I had bimini doubles that had been on for some time and i never re tied them(never failed)
4.No bubble trail like you can get from a PR knot(couda will attack the knot and you lose everything.)
The cons......
1....suffix wind ons were 17 dollars each for 150 pound but i never had one fail.
2.Tying  a PR knot or FG is far more economical with your own leader.
This system works well for jigging.....is great when couda are around and good until you learn an FG knot or PR......I jigged with this set up for probably 3 years before i finally learnt the PR......tying a short Pr can combat the bubble trail somewhat.
Anyone of these 3 will do the jobWink.......But you must feel confident in your system.....Practice your knots.
Once the idiots turn up..Im outta here...No time for Drama Queens.

If you hate tying the FG knot, try it this way:

It's the easiest way to tie it by far

Well I can now say after a lot of practice I can tie a pretty good pr knot, wasn't as hard as I thought once I got into it, just need to test them out on some waihau bay kingfish, thanks everyone for your help.
