Talked the missus in pulling a sicky with me yesterday. What weather. Was to go west coast harbours but the tides were wrong so headed toward Thames. Then the missus said she hadnt been up the Miranda coast. Off we went.
Stopped at a petrol station and he suggested as it was low tide how to launch off the beach. Off we went. 12 noon. Not expecting much went to a mussel farm. The workers said its been dead slow but decided to fish there anyway as it was another first for the missus. Water oily/glass with the sun burning off the fog. 10m of water started burleying.
Then wham. Then the other rod went off. Two 3 pounders. Anyway 1.30 hours later we had our limit up to 4 pounds. Smallest fish caught all day was 36cm. Back to the car and trailer by 2pm.
Popped into thank the garage guy and he was wrapped the snapper had moved in. Just one of those wicked days!!. might not be so hard to get the missus to pull a sicky again!!.
Something of interest. Some of the snapper were totally white when boated. I thought I they were albeno or something until I stuck them and all the nice red colours came back...thoughts?
They got a huge fright when they saw you Reel!
Congrats on a good day out .. itching to get out on the water myself.
Them pale ones are school fish that have moved in from on the mud, as opposed to fish that have wintered over in the shallows
unless I'm wrong which I spose I might be
or I could be right
or maybe I'm...

Yeah Dead Ant, pilchards over squid and Bonito this day. The weather is just awesome catching a bumper load of fish was just a bonus.
Interesting from where I launched . I must have gone well over a km out and was still in 0.8m of water. A bit nerve racking going full noise and watching star fish and crabs fly by on the bottom... 2 km out and only reached 1.2m before it gradually dropped away.
This weekend looking at the swell I will be pointing the marco 440 out off Raglan, fishing the 10m then 25m then 30m till Im on to them. Wouldnt mind a few dog fish for the freezer thats if the gurnard leave the baits alone long enough, apparantly thick out there at the mo....
What's the Deal with the swell? On Bouyweather it doesn't look that good. Do you launch from Manu Bay? What the best weather to launch in there.

yeah Dead Ant anything under 1m is all good as long as the wind is under 10knots. With a boat my size Manu bay is the best option, The trick is not to hold your boat at the ramp but to have a long rope and push it past the surge and let it float around till you are ready.
Hoping the swell doesnt get up till the afternoon...will watch developments tonight.
