Just wondering what people are using for Jigging spin reels? I have been through a few, using salina II and III, Ajiking wahoos and currently using a saragosa sw 20000. Although the last option I am finding a lot of work as it weighs about 1kilo when loaded with braid and with 104cm per turn its fairly quick for jigging. Is there anything out there which is quality offering 80-90cm per return and weighing less than 700g? I just aint built like the Big angry fish boys and am finishing the saragosa hard work. I got one that big for the capacity and will keep it for puka/bluenose jigging. but would love something more manageable for everyday kingies.

Obvious I guess but the Stella 10K PG is 685g. Still has 102 retrieve but I like mine. Needed to change to knob though as that rubber thing is a killer.

Yeah would love a 10k stella. But a bit out of the price range. Also a little fast.

I just got the new Sustain 10k for jigging. Yet to use it but it feels like a nice bit of kit.

These should be coming here this summer and will be packing some serious punch for a sub $200 reel, Dual anti-reverse systems, oversized stainless steel spool shaft and a massive forged spool shaft sleeve, full alloy body and a dual carbon drag system with 20kg of drag. Certainly looking forward to having a play with one to see how they go

Hey jono how about a quantum bts60? Or 80 but 60 is more within your specs seems like a good reel for the coin and have heard people say good things about them.

Cheers zac

Hey Jono

I just went through this very scenario myself! I have a Stella 20000 and it is a beautiful reel... But when you jig all day it gets heavy. I wanted a decent reel to put on a lighter jig reel. The problem is that it needs to have enough balls to stop a good fish when it jumps on.

I have been through plenty of cheap reels over the years but in the end it is a false economy as if you use a cheap a lot the gears will wear out (they can't generally handle heavy jigs anyway), the anti reverse will break etc. And more likely than not it will die when you are attached to a decent fish!

The new Saragosa 10k is worth looking at, or see if you can pick up one of the old models from somewhere. Not sure how hardy the Sustain is in terms of water getting inside of it. The Other ones to look at if you do want to go cheaper are the Daiwa Opus Bull 4500, The Seagate E and the Seagate Hyper are also options.

In the end i buckled and bought a new 8000 Stella but the old model. Awesome reel - personally i reckon the 1m per wind ish is perfect for spin reels...

Good luck with your decision. Just look at the Stella as an investment. Get it serviced and it will easily last you 10 years :-)

Agree with the comments above from PE Pete & Pottsy.

Stella 8000PG is a great reel to jig all day with, very tough and smooth. As you mention may be out of your price range, I used to try to buy cheap reels but as has been said, false economy and they don't last as long. Agree with the Saragosa 10000 as an option, Sustain looks nice but I have not used one yet.

Alan Hawk really rates the Finnor Lethal 100 for a cheap real. Google his reveiw.

I am not after super cheap, I have a saragosa 10k which is my topwater reel, Maybe I should start thinking of a bit of a swap and put it on the jig rod for a go. Will leave me short a topwater reel though. Ohh the dilemma. Would love to look at a stella, but maybe in a few years time.
