Hi guys 

Just got myself a Stella 8000. Intend to use it mainly for jigging in under 100m. Have paired it up with a Jigstar 350 rod. 

Reel is currently spooled with 50lb braid but I want to put something a bit stronger on it. Thinking around 80-90Lbs would probably be the go. 
The Stella 8000 has a pretty small spool so I am a bit restricted in terms of diameter if I want decent capacity. 

Capacity of the Stella 8000 is:
290m at 0.35mm dia
215m at 0.40mm dia
175m at 0.45mm dia

Just after some advice on what braid you guys would recommend?
Is it worth spending the money on the high end braids like YGK etc?
Or is the likes of Suffix Performance braid all good? 

Also what is the minimum amount of line I can get away with? 
Was thinking 200m-ish an 80lb PE6 would be about right but not really sure.

What do you reckon??

Most 80lb braids are around the .45mm thickness so you are unlikely to get more than 200m on. All depends on depth you normally jig but i would go for PE4 or 5. Diawa saltiga boat braid is good value for money but not available in PE5

This is from Sufix website for Sufix Performance Metered braid.
I use the 84lb on my stella 10K with a jigstar 350. I have found it good but I'm no braid expert.
Maybe if you go 64 or 70 that might be a good compromise between strength and capacity.

Sufix is fine have it on a reel or two, never been able to fault it. YGK is probably a touch nicer, seems a bit smoother and runs through the guides and around the bail roller nicely, but no performance advantage.  - Casting is a different matter, the high end braids are worth it, for the better casting characteristics.

For jigging it doesnt really matter a lot. PE6 is a bout as heavy as I would go on an 8000 size reel personally. It depends where you are jigging, how deep etc.

For deep work PE6 is best inmho because you get less swing from the current etc and a slightly faster drop etc.

PE8, maybe if you want the extra boogie if its sharp n reefy or for a little more abrasion resistance.

Never used it but tasline all white has a pe 3.5 with an actual breaking strain of 78lb. Could go next one up and still have lots of capacity and strength

I'm getting the Tasline All White series PE 2.5 which breaks at 48.99lb & PE5 which breaks at just under 100lb which is on its way. Should be here early next week.. Will let you know what it's like once I get a chance to have a cast with it. Smile

Ref the 2.5 ....I put that on my stella sw5000 and got about 220metres on it....its actually 30 pound braid but breaks at the 48 like you say.........great for casting but as others have said....you are better off with rainbow braid for jigging.......However i jigged with PFK tuna braid(white) for ages and caught plenty of fish ...was bloody good stuff actually but they dont sell anymore..you just dont have that advantage of dropping the jig around where the fish are on the sounder....you are guessing instead.

Hey guys, thanks for all the advice. 

I am definitely after metered braid as will be doing mostly jigging.
That probably rules the Tasline out unfortunately.

I have heard great things about the daiwa boat braid but I think the 80lb is PE8 which is just too thick for the 8000.

Suffix performance braid does seem to fit the bill (and the pockets) quite nicely. That may end up being the way I go.

Before I pull the trigger does anyone have any other suggestions of jigging braid with good strength/thickness ratio?

I have the old stella 8000 SWPG and it takes a 10,000 spool as well if you felt like you wanted an additional option with a bit more capacity. I use the 8000 spool for jigging and I think it has varivas braid on it from memory, and my 10,000 spool for stickbaiting which has casting braid on it - can't remember the brand.
 
Having fished around the aldie pins and in 80m up in the BOI a few times I've never felt nervous about being under-gunned.

Sounds like your priority is jigging but for some casting as well is it? Thats a High gear 8000 is it or  a PG?...........If you want to use for both id go the Tas line white....thin for its strength...so good capacity.....Rainbow is nice but not essential.
What Graemap has, sounds the way to go......one spool for jigging and one for topwater.
I like ygk pe6 X8 jigman for my overhead reels.I know its pe6 but 80 pound and quite thin(someone on here would know the thickness of it) but i dont know how it goes with spin reels(not into them for jigging)..Varivas for my stella 10,000 topwater.
I guess go where your priorities lie or get a spare spool as what G Does.

Yeah I'm considering grabbing another spool for it but they're just so bloody expensive. 

Priority is definitely jigging. Will probably do a very small amount of top-water stuff but not much.

The 65lb All White just arrived & it feels very smooth, breaking strain is 93.5lbs & the diameter is 0.417mm

The Jm monster spool 16000  is much cheaper with more capacity.............Jm dont make them anymore but you could have a sniff around for one of them......the extra capacity is what you seek...plus they have a mean drag stack compared to the stella spool.

Dont see a spool on there to fit the 8,000/10,000 .....that spool is for the 18000/20000 but if the guy did have one for the 8 and 10 that would be a premo deal.Wink

I emailed a few companies regarding the 16000 Maxel spools but can't find anyone that stocks or sells them other than apparently the Maxel Jason on Facebook. Little bit wary about buying from someone through facebook. Can they be bought elsewhere??

Otherwise, does anyone know where I can get my hands on a JM 16000 spool?

I think you'll find he is a pretty safe bet, lots of satisfied customers from 360 Tuna. You could also pay via paypal which will give you a higher level of comeback.....
