They look smart - but I wonder how they'll cast and fish?

You might struggle to keep them afloat, and with a long, stiff wing like that they'll probably spin like a demented dervish when you cast them.

Only one way to find out though...Smile

Hi the legs are made of copper wire i am having real trouble with legs but working on a few different things when i am home, takes ages tho, in the mean time i knocked up a few of these at work as practice

As soon as i am happy with some more realistic things i will post those as well, until then its great fun just playing round and trying out different things , was shaking something chronic this evening so not that pleased with results but still practice makes perfect... again tips and suggestions very very welcome as it all helps me improve

Mmmm, yes, I thought that might be the case.
Most beetle flies would be tied to emulate floating insects & the copper legs would make that a bit difficult.
You might be best advised to stick with feather hackles as in the first version pics?
Other than that, they look great.
Also, your wee wets are excellent, particularly #'s 1 & 4.
Keep up the good workThumbs Up

ps. have you started scavenging around for roadkill etc yet?  it will comeLOL

you're tying some nice flies there. i like the look of the wee wets 1 and 3, just of interest what are the feathers on the fourth one is it some kind of parakeet and peacock?

i have been trying to make realistic flies which are not really ment for fishing but i am pretty much completely new to tying and i have not been fly fishing once yet (to busy trying to pay the rent on this awesome minumum wage job) so its taking me a little while to get certain things right. I am finding whatever materials i can at the time, hunting and fishing in botany just had some 1/2 price deals on that i snapped up  and roadkill has been awesome... the good fresh stuff. And i have no idea what the feathers are that i used in the last fly , there is peacock and i think you might be right with some kind of parakeet, i paid $5 for a bag full of feathers and they were in it , i spent ages sorting out all the bits and pieces and i figured i could use them.... in fact i have been playing with all sorts of random (cheap) materials to see what i can and cannot do ... sofar i have found that tying is not something you can really go anyplace to learn i just have to reseach on the net and then just practice, so yeah i only started a couple months ago but loving it , i think its a great and rewarding hobby and more people should give it a try, its really pretty simple
