I firmly believe that anyone offering products or services on this site should offer a discount to forum members. This is a great space to attract more business...even myself i offered Driving lessons to forum members at much reduced rates. We all tend to sell gear, second hand at mates/forum members rates..
If people are going to advertise for free on here...then they should look after this forum in some way and also its members....I have been treated great in this area by many.. eg tackle shops etc but there some mean ****s who dont or have just never even thought about it=LOYALTY. To them...All i have to say is = You have a nerve to come on here and advertise what you have and not give anything in return....This place is a big market.
Should be a law of 10% for anyone from here(otherwise advertise somewhere else and pay for it!Like i do, in the yellow pages!).......Many thanks to the "Goodies",Much appreciatedWink.....Feel free to give your two cents worth.
Once the idiots turn up..Im outta here...No time for Drama Queens.

Yeah but should'nt you build somesort of relationship first with the retailers? The new products & announcements section is there to tell us whats available and not generally advertising as such. Otherwise it would be called the advertising section surely?
For example if Tackle shop A says they have Shimano's new reel in stock then it also means others have it too...you choose where to get it maybe try your favourite retailer first.

...and most of the advertisers on site are not doing so for free at all!
However, I am sure that many, if you get to know them and introduce yourself as a f.net member, may well look after you a little.
But I think a compulsory 10% off is a little harsh..... especially if you are looking for a new outboard or something! :-)

Half of what I do would have a 10% margin in it
I dont accept Visa or master card as they end up with more than I do

Man I wish the margins allowed me to give 10%

so true Barrie, as a wholesaler its hard to offer deals to members but I think that the 10% thing is a good idea, most retailers do a discount offer for clubs and some have a loyalties card,I can see other ways of doing things as a wholesaler e.g - buy a rod send back the warranty card and receive a free gift or something along those lines will work on that

So retailers that advertise in the new products and announcements are paying to do so is it stu? If thats the case...Then i stand corrected....What about charter operators that plug their business with reports on here?...Do they pay the site to do that? If they all pay, then that sorts the site out but when they get clients buying off them or using their services from members of this site...Whats in it for us?
The money us tas freaks spend Deserves some sort of loyalty in my eyes....I give deals to my customers...perks...want to keep my clients happy both financially and with Quality.Makes business sense to me! All of the above equals big bucks.
I hear what you are saying about an outboard....so...5% off to forum members then...Its the thought that counts! Its called "Buttering up"LOL

the thing is mate we do get discounts etc but it is in store or in the service, Tazze at WS is a prime example.
Brown another with his business, the list goes on, one thing with the fishing industry or anything to do with it there is bugger all profit margins so 10% is asking alot, discounts are all good but not expected and when I go into a shop and get service that "yes" I deserve thats enough for me, get walked on once and its over for them, spent well over 40k this year on gear and most from the same places.  although I got the discount it was never asked for, they look after me and thats why they get a free plug on here from me.

The businesses that advertise (banners) or sponsor forums all contribute to keeping your site going. New products and announcements is a free for all and anyone or any business can promote a new product or special offer, sale, discount or whatever in that forum and there's no charge.

Charter operators listed in our charter section pay $20 a month.

The majority of businesses that use the rest of the site to promote themselves through the forums contribute - some don't but they'll be weedled out over time.

The retailers that support the site like Yeeha, TopCatch and WS Lawries look after forum members and help make all this work.

Charter operators like Damo on Diversity, Carl and Tobes at Epic, Rick on Pusuit, Geoff on Arenui all contribute significantly to the site & are bloody good operators too.

And lastly and importantly there's everyone in these forums that contributes something of substance that helps the rest of our community -  a report, some advice, whatever...

We're lucky, this country is blessed with more than our share of good people.
Online...

Interesting info there...I agree i have shopped at the stores mentioned and they have always looked after me too.Always give great advice and friendly. However,I went to a fishing shop recently and the guy that runs it was a right grumpy prik(I wont be going back there)Not mentioning any names but kids like to fly them!........I hear what you say Ba and Grunta.
I dont question the quality of retailers(Generally)or charter operators and i have used some of the charters that you mention but what i have noticed is prices going up consistently and i know fuel is an issue(i have that in my business too)....I am not one of the more expensive driving schools...AA charge 65 and 70 on weekends....I charge 50 bucks...why? because i want to make what i offer, affordable to people on lower incomes as well(its important to me) and i am not greedy......with charters getting more and more expensive...its putting the cost out of the average kiwis pockets...which is a shame...There is more to this than  increasing costs="Supply and Demand"...At least this site is well looked after but its a mixed bag for the kiwi fisho.....At the end of the day...its how  much dosh you have...Money talks. Some people are good to you.some people are not.
When people ask me how much it costs to go jigging for the day...they are shocked but hey, i guess we are just addictsLOL......Thanks for peoples input....Good to know these things.Wink

Man, I don't think any charter operator could be accused of gouging in their pricing.... by and large, chartering here in NZ is pretty much a "lifestyle choice", ie: sod all money. I also think there is still a lot of the population that can afford these trips. It is just a matter of where you put your spare money really. fishing trips/gear, or pesky family.
Prices going up though, hardly surprising. Just going thru the exercise of kitting out a small knock-about boat..... and just doubling the cost of everything I had intended to pay. ouch.
Fuel ain't the only thing going up. Dammit..... :-)

DRIVING LESSONS.........I will put my money where my mouth is=Most of the top Driving schools in Auckland are charging 60 dollars an hour with the AA 65 and 70 on the weekend. They usually offer package deals for blocks of 5 lessons with small saving.
I have been a professional Instructor in Auckland for 16 years(Auckland).I have always taught Manual(I have specialized In this)and for the last 6 years taught Auto too.I have been Driving 30+ years.(Before some of you jokers were even born!)...I was trained and became Qualified through LTNZ and had additional training from a kiwi instructor who had been teaching for 25 years...I worked for him for ten years(now own STREETWISE DRIVING SCHOOL)...He then retired and he was a great boss and a great friend(still is).Thumbs Up...I am well known...especially at westgate.
As it is, i am already offering exceptional value for money at 50 dollars an hour but i am willing to give 10% Discount to forum members or their Families=45 dollars per hour....Why? Because NZers are crap drivers and Drivers need all the help they can to survive on our roads(especially youngsters). There are too many needless deaths with poor choices and lack of knowledge a key factor...it shocks me the number of drivers that dont even know their give way rulesWacko
Maybe,You have a youngster just starting out? someone who wants to do their Restricted/full test or an overseas conversion?....Maybe you need to refresh your driving skills/rules..Maybe you would like to be professionally assessed to see if you have any bad or Dangerous habits?I have done over 400 Advanced assessments on drivers(these are  no longer available thanks to LTNZ)..There are some conditions=
1.This offer is only available for Automatic.
2.Must have a learners licence or above.
3.No package deal is available.
4.No Cheques.
5.Must be in an area that I cover.
6.No interfering parents who feel the need to tell me how to do my job!
7.Must give 24 hrs notice of cancellation and not mess me about in this area.Eg Not turn up! That really bugs me.BE RESPONSIBLE.
8.Student needs to work with me..not against me.
This offer will remain, until student either passes test or is happy where they are.
I have an 84% first time pass rate for Restricted. The full test/overseas conversion has been going for approx 7 years....Only had 2 people fail that.
I dont get grumpy and i am Patient...I still enjoy what i do and believe in what i do(take it seriously,I hate students failing!) and of course i am a LAIDBACKDOOD. If interested..Please PM Me....JON..................................Right e o.....whos next then?

laidbackdood you are really a 09er aren't you? by the time the public price around there is not much margin for the retailer at all, if you find a good retailer then support them and keep supporting them, then you might get a good deal from time to time. Just don't expect the discount always.

Dont know what you mean by this "laidbackdood you are really a 09er aren't you?"............................No doubt its a cheap shotLOL you obviously dont  realise there is not much margin in what i do either But i am still willing to look after forum members....If there is so little margin..why would they be in business?LOLThe likes of top catch,ws laurie, smart marine...to name a few have been around for years...and they are operating on a small margin are they? Get real. They would never stay in business if they did.
If you read my previous post...it stated that i do get good deals from the majority and i do shop around and a lot of retailers/service providers offer sweetners which  are much appreciated...its just some are tight fisted, thats all..FACT.Wink
So anyone else in business have a generous streak or am i one of the few?
What suprises me is i have heard few members agreeing with me.Just defenders.
My generous offer is still open to all of youWink

Laidbackdood you dont come across as very laid back to be honest. And although an offer for a discount is a good idea if it comes with a list of 10 requirements then its not much of an offer......

Mate, you really need to get out more often. Possibly some other interests and hobbies other than fishing and talking teko on here. Reckon you are less than 1 and a half steps away from being emitted.
