Im looking to replace about 24m of pontoons to our wharf area and need some bright ideas as to what to replace it with.  Ive had a look at a whole bunch of old Concrete pontoons ex westhaven which if they are replacing are probably right at the end of there useful life and have contacted one other crowd who do the rotary molded plastic ones.

has anyone recently gone through this excercise or has any options worth considering

Heres a pick of what im talking about

Lance - I think you are talking about circa $25k - $30k for a new concrete/foam marina style pontoon with fittings etc. I had one priced about that length a few months back. You can do a much cheaper 'home build' option using rotationally moulded floats that are moulded with fittings for the timbers, bolts etc. Use these with a timber deck over them. I would guess around $8k - $10k, but haven't actually done that calculation.

Had some fun hauling them off the bottom when they sunk and fixing those puppies Lance. Has Guy decided to replace them?

Total Marine Services just did the marina in Whangamata. In a word "Brilliant" would not hesitate in recommending them.

Wetspot - I'm involved with Total Marine / Total Floating Systems, Total Floating Systems manufacture concrete pontoons as well as reselling a major plastic moulded brand.
I won't go into a sales pitch but PM me if you want contact details to make an enquiry. The guys there might also be aware of some 2nd hand units available.

Thanks Kaveman, the guys did a fantastic job at Whanga.

Thanks guys :)

have anchorage looking, bellingham looking at it and hopefully Total marine so between them we must be able to get a satisfactory solution.  Not that the steel pontoons arnt working , just that the trust that owns them have offered to replace so i might as well take advantage of the generous offer so all toys are safe at home port :)

I'm with AC. If you want the job done properly, Shippy's lot are the only game in town.

Nobody has ever come up with a great idea after a second bottle of water.

Wetspot - Total Marine's office number is 379 9752. You'll either get Tracy or Shippie. Both can sort you out.
