Just back an hour ago.  Yip that Chopstick report will be well worth waiting for!  Lets just say we have flat arse sea conditions for nearly all the 5 days.  Hell we even ANCHORED overnight 2 nights in a row on Ranfurly.  We're all sun burnt with aching arms which are now a few inches longer than before.

Wayne, make sure you take 150- 300lb leader. 400g, 500g & a few 300g jigs.   The KJ400 spiral was good fighting fish but i think a bit long for my jigging style, I've left it behind with Lance (Enchanter) who will pass it onto Rick together with some T-shirts & caps from the sponsor.  Good luck buddy!
give it death!

On Sunday 18/11/07 six anglers and two cameramen met at the Whakatane Game Club for a few ales and a meal before boarding the Enchanter at 8 p.m. for our long awaited trip to the Ranfurly Bank. The forecast was excellent for a change, so things were looking good.

We anchored at a secluded bay somewhere near East Cape about midnight. After a hearty breakfast we headed off towards the Furly in beautiful sunshine and a calm sea.

We stopped at a few places as we began the rise up on to the bank about noon. We had some fun with some rat Kingies; however we were there for the big boys and we were keen to reach the Ranfurly Bank proper which we did around 2 p.m. I haven't the time or the inclination to go into detail of what followed, suffice to say we had an amazing two solid days of fishing rapture.

We anchored out on the bank for those two nights and according to the skipper it is the first time in his twenty odd years of fishing there that he has ever been able to do this. This meant being on the spot within minutes instead of having to motor all the way from Hicks Bay every morning.

Below is just a small sample of some of the fish landed. We all had major bust-offs and caught some beautiful Kingies up to 33 kgs and Bass up to 40 kgs. The numerous Hapuku caught went up to about 30 kgs.

Getting ready to leave Whakatane.
A big Kingie about to be decked.
Nice one Shane - nice shades too! How much are they again Chris?
Jimi dealing to a good Kingie - JM Power Spell 500 &OJ 5000P.
Hey chopsticks - you're not very photogenic!
Stop admiring your fish chopsticks and turn it over so we can see how fat it is and close your gob too.
Shane with his and chopsticks sharked Kingies.
Shane scores a nice puka..........
.....and a nice Kingie.
Jimi slays them with the Candy Bar shower rail jig,
Chris with a 26 kg beauty.
Don of 'Sport Fishing Ltd' fame with a .....what!!!! That's not a Zest jig!
The same Don hooked up to his big bass.
And here it is. Estimated to be close to 90 years old.
Another 30 kg fish falls prey to the Jigging Master.
A fine puka bested by Shane. Note the movie star smile.
A big bass and a big Hapuku with a JM 500 and OJ 4000P.
Jimi with another beaut puka.
