Hi everyone, hey im looking at buying a stabi supercab but not sure witch one.

I like the size of the 2050 but launching might be a issue at manu bay boat ramp, any thoughts?

The 1850 looks like it would be fine but looks alot smaller then my current 6,1 mclay

I wasn't too impressed with the 2050 hard top that was making very heavy going in an outgoing chop on the West coaster a couple of years ago. It was going over and down the back of close swells and boomph into the next swell going right over the hard top and dousing the bling in the rocket launchers.

We were in a modest FC500 C/C and never took a drop on board as we passed at a comfortable 20mph. Its all about stability and not too much weight up front. I wished that we had taken a video as you could see the 4 blokes pointing and saying WTF as we waved and passed them.

Similar style Stabi 6.3 HT and a nightmare trip back from the Rangitiras into a moderate sou'wester had 3 of us walking funny for days after. Not even a swell to speak of - just a chop with occasional whitecaps. A mates 18' pontoon I will only go on short trips up the harbour in. This style of hull may suit divers but not offshore. A big one with an experienced skipper got rolled with fatal consequences on a moderate Bowentown bar a couple of years back. See how many are listed on Trade Me and none mention the slamming and the noise. Awful! all of them. Wound up putting a new G2 on the back of and a targa on the top of an older glass Morgan 6.3. Still not perfect (what boat is) but better than anything else I tried.

I have spent many hours is Stabi,s. 509, 609,759 and 2400. They do get slap under the pontoons and they don't ride as well as some boats but I haven't found them that bad. The 609 rode better than my 5.8 Bluefin brumby and the 509 way better than my Ramco seeker. The thing I like about the 2400 and I think its the same with the 1850 and 2050 is that the hull extends under the boarding platform. I don't lose 800mm in hull length to outboard pod.

Not an expert on Stabis but been out at Manu a few times. Seems to me that the most important thing is to have a good plan and all the crew know their parts. Seen boats of all sizes get in and out there except the really big glass ones. The 2050 would have no issues with the car I would have thought as well.

I have seen all sorts of boats launch at Manu bay, key is to be prepared with some one backing the trailer down and putting it in the right place.  Comes down to experience. So you can have a quick launch and retrieve. I only go when the conditions are good  ie 1meter or less at Manu.  A mate has  a 2050 Stabi he has been blowen on the rocks (minor damge to prop) when condition were marginal and had trouble holding the boat in position  while waiting for trailer to be backed down. The sea wall is wider and lower. Water goes over the top on marginal  days so pick your days. 
    A Good Skipper Keeps the water on the outside of the boat.

Fished the Taranaki One Base in a 1850 Stabi Supercab model with a 115hp 4 stroke, and 3 persons on board.
Never been out in onebefore, but after two days fishing out to 25 miles offshore was most impressed with the roomy cockpit and sea handling ability. I would go again.            Really nice little boat.
