Just got me a pile of new toys in today to use in the islands soon. I am having a ball playing with smaller lures and lighter tackle, but it is hard finding the sort of lures I want here in NZ....so hello Mister Internet, and viola! Fifty lures dropped on my doorstep this morning!....here a a sample...
.....oops, upside down! Oh well, you get the idea... :-)
...weird, looks like they are all gunna be loading upside down. Anyhow, that is a 6in popper, good cup face, should be able to belt it out a decent distance I hope....
A nice little stick bait. A tad smaller than the awesome R2C Doggies I love up there, should be easier to cast with lighter rods and line....this is the larger of two sizes I got in these....
This being the smaller....
....now I also have been having a pile of fun using significantly smaller lures, like 100mm or thereabouts,so I got me a few lures in this range, up to 120mm, a mix of bibbed minnows and small stickbaits, they should do the biz I reckon.....
.....ah! I see I didn't get a shot of the bibbed minnow.....hmmm, I am sure I did....
...yessss, I did! I knew I wasn't going potty, lol a small stickbait and a fairly solid good sized bibbed minnow, both of which I shall be re rigging with decent hardware. The lures all come with VMC hooks, in the largr lures they are fine, but the smaller lures I think will definitely need beefing up.
Man, I gotta tell ya, I am SO looking forward to playing with these in the tropics!

Thanks for posting, Captn. Some nice looking lures.
i've seen Top Catch and some of the other shops like Go Fish running a range of smaller sinking stick baits etc now.

I must admit I'd love to live on the coast of Queensland or similar where there seems to be a whole range of lure taking fish that we can't match here.

Not to downplay the qualities of kahawai etc, even snapper in some circumstances, but going up a tropical creek chasing barras, mangrove jacks etc on little diving minnows and the like must be awesome.

I presume the islands you head to would be similarly amazing for the sheer variety of lure munching cod, coral trout, trevs and co.

But speak to some Aussies, and they drool over our kingie fishery. Grass is always greener.

Serious question Capt, with that many lures to choose from. How do you decide what one to use?
