Hi Guys,

How long do you expect a shop bought burley bomb to last? I recently bought a wobbly pot which is obviously dispersing better than my last pot but it seems to be too quick. Ive been dropping 4 kg bombs down in the onion type sack it comes with in the wobbly pot, pull them up to look about an hour later and the pot and bag is empty and clean as a whistle. End up drifting with slow jigs. Should it last longer or do I just need to take more?

That has exercised my mind too. I use 3kg berleys. In a perforated pot (Topcatch). From frozen. One from H&F (mussel), lasted about 45 mins - was worsened by having about 20% shell left. Another from Topcatch (pilchard and Bonito), lasted about 90 mins, twice as long. I think 45 mins is too short -

I agree as mine will last a couple of hours. Wobbly pot also here. I also use a slurry purchased locally and dribble it from the rear of the boat as required

4kg, about the biggest that fits in to a medium Wobbly pot. The last one was a muscle and Kina from top catch but same result with other types from other shops

Dont know about brought burely as we make our own thru the garden mulcher....about 50kg at a time in sq 2L milk containers... which fit nice into a bmw suspension spring
One needs to understand how a wobbly works.. not so much 'wobble' but net size allows attracted bait fish to pull at the burely....
What happens in summer is very different from winter....
water temps means different rate of de frost.
Summer I have narrow cut out slits down each cnr.....winter the whole cnrs and part of the sides chopped out.
I have messed around with several different sized nets/ containers.. those blue plastic containers, if chop bigger holes in work better... thats better not well, they dont allow a good constant stream out and only baby bait fish can pull at the burly... and baby bait fish dont seem to be around when bigger fish are.....I think the current net size I use is about 1" sq. maybe a little more???
Been thinking maybe add a bait catcher or something to the burly pot for live baits.. a though for the future maybe.

I count on using 2 1/2 to 4 1/2   x 2L containers each day trip out... more in summer

The slits in the sides of the 2L milk containers I think sort of dispense with the help of bait fish... where as plastic bags are soft, shapeless and think tend tp pour the contents out... rather than dispense????

Hint how to clean the burly pot easy (may not apply to commercial burly as dont think it has lumps of bone / flesh etc)   throw under the lemon tree.. doesnt take long for hedgehogs / birds to pick the net clean.

I defrosted like above ages ago... has still bloody cold, re packed near to top (allow for expansion).....put in the freezer.....
Before it could fully freeze it sort of fermented, making a mess down the sides.....and stank
Dont recommend thaw/ refreeze.
Even making burley from frozen fames etc.. I throw them in the garden mulcher still partly frozen to keep temps down....and re pack fast...hands get very sore from the cold burly packing into the containers.
