This is a little tale of yesterday.

I was down in the harbour taking my son for a fish to kill some time in the afternoon. After 15 tonnes of sea lettuce we decided to call it a day.

As we were packing up to leave I heard a familiar voice and poked my head around the corner to see my mates Alex and Aaron just setting up to test some new stickbaits they had acquired.

I stopped to chat as alex has a cast, then another. Just out to see how these baits swim. On the third cast there was a great splash behind and another and another. The fish missed it but we could see he was worked up. So flicked the bait back to him (cast 4) two sweeps and he was on.

Only a small fish but wasted no time going directly for the pylons. Managing to snag himself on the pylon closest to shore. First thought was 'there goes $100' but as it was only knee deep we were able to wade in a grab him.

Nice little surprise for the first day of spring.

Alex is on, If you look closely you can see the fish swirl about 4 pylons out.

Aaron Holding the little fella up for a shot before going home.

Land based stickbait kings, man I can think of some good spots around the harbour with no pylons in the way, like off Matakana into the entrance?

Agent, PM Kingyslayer about the stickbaits. He can sort ya out.

Heath, could be a few after work missions when daylight savings rolls sound. That spot you talk about would be great. Casting into 18m of water too! I have a few tucked up my sleeve which will get a peppering with stickbaits this spring
