Are there any ramps nearby of is it beach launching only? Which beaches are safest?
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish caught will we realise we can't eat money.

But I have heard Te Ngaere is better, mate used to launch from there. Matauri in a swell can be interesting!

Nearest ramp would be Whangaroa.

Te Ngaere is way better than Matauri. Make sure you lock your trailer, car and everything else.

As pompey says - Te Ngaere is a better beach launch than Matauri (as above it is interesting in a swell).

The all-tide ramp at Whangaroa is also a good option,

in Kerikeri there are 2 proper boat ramps, but it is 38k to the Cavalli's..
Whangaroa there is another, and that is 22k to the Cavalli's...

Te Ngaire is beach launch, is sheltered from most swells and is 6k away from Cavalli's...
Matauri is also beach launch, a tractor can be hired to launch your boat, anything over 1mt swell can be a problem, pending on direction, beach is East facing...

distance, your already there...
have fun great place to fish...

Te Ngaere is the place to do it, requires a 4wd. we pull our 720 Billfisher out of there at times.

hard pulling it out on a full tide as the sand is too soft as you dont get the run up

Ok - we will be launching a 6m ramco with Nissan Nivara 4WD. Tractor option sounds better.

Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish caught will we realise we can't eat money.

How far is the run from Whangaroa to Cavalli's, 20km?

You will have no problem launching your boat with the Nissan at Te Ngaere. At high tide you can motor up the stream. Then get out and walk it up as far as you can and retrieve.

If you decide to go whangaroa then you may be tempted to cut inside flat island on your way down.

Be warned it is safest to stay right against flat.. and I mean spitting distance as there is a line of rock through that area.

Tide matters as well.

We always cut through but it would be easy to regret it.

In my big boat we go around every time.

Have a dive on the warrior, catch some fish and crays, great day............

As everyones said Matauri is close as and is a mean option if conditions suit. Three of us kayaking up there a couple of weeks back carved up on good eaters as well as a couple of goodies and theres a few still swimming in the shallows that we couldn't stop

Cheers for all the advise peeps..e we launched out of Te Ngaere and it was a doddle. Had a great day out with the bro.. No trophy fish but fairly steady all day with snapper to 6kg and kings to 16kg.
I will definately be back to landbase these islands - so much awesome looking terrain.
