That's a good find!  They are great fighting fish.  Are they at the surface of the pond? On a warmer day, when they are topping, have a crack with some floating bread crust or biscuit on a simple float set up or even a strayline if you can get to them.  Otherwise they will take anything vegetarian so corn or paste would go well.

ive caught heaps on floating bread. just use it on my 6 wt flyrod and 6 pound leader. the do big strong runs but i dont get to many bust offs on 6lb but you cant stop them on that. usually takes about 15 to 20min to land a big one which around my area almost double the size of the one above

where i fish there are pretty much no snags.if there was any snags i wouldnt use 6 pound leader. try a 6 weight rod if you have one its a heap of fun. they have totally differant fight to any trout ive caught

There are Grass Carp in the Waikato, Wefaknis caught a 12kg jobbie a week or two ago near the river mouth. I've never seen one there though, only koi.

and the easiest way to cast a floating bread bait on a flyrod is drop your flyline on the ground on your backcast with no bait and a size 10 or 12 flyhook on a rod length leader. then squish the corner of the bread bait to make it doughy but not to much or it will sink and ive only ever had 1 eat a bait that had sunk.then hook a size 10 or 12 flyhook through the doughy part of the bread and put it back on the ground. sneak back down to your rod and do a nice smooth foward cast and lay your line on the water . if you've down it right your bread bait will be floating nicely in the burley trail and not flown off the hook. and beware of ducks
