Me again, with yet more questions. I have a pair of split ring pliers, which have Been fine for split rings i have used so far, but having rigged a couple of stick baits I now realise that they are not up to the job. Any recommendations for a better set?

I've had a couple of crappy ones and they pee me off.
Just ordered some Texas Tackle splitring pliers from Boulder
Haven't go them yet (he must be fishing Wink) but they get good reviews:
Note they are splitring pliers only.

stay away from the black magic ones and all the identical clones - cheap massed produced re- branded crap/
the ali jaws are too soft and bend on big mother splitrings. 
will be buying owners next.

by far the black magic style are the best they open a 300-400lb rings easy, the return on the top of the pliers is the best I have used. there is others made by others and they are cheaper and may do the same job.

The ones I have are rovex, and to be fair they work fine with "normal" sized split rings and they were very cheap. It's just now I'm starting to get into poppers the split rings are a bit more serious.

I got these when they were on sale for $50 (they always come on sale). They work mint, snips cut braid fine too, and are removeable, so can be replaced. They are pretty much an exact copy of the black magic ones

i dont think they are a copy of the black magic ones - merely the same item but with a different logo onit if you look on alibaba you can get them for loose change basically,  i think they will even put your logo on them .

If you go black magic , may be handy to have a small allen key in your kit to suit the screws that hold the jaws in situ. If they work loose like mine did , more than once, they are next to useless. Just saying.

Will be out with the loctite next time.

berkley heavy duty split ring pliers, the fairly heavy stainless steel ones, not the glossy red ally ones (like the bm ones)..., these are a reasonable price and can handle any split rings you can name..., also they have an excellent set of cutters.

Agree 100 % with Capt...I have a pair of these are they are fine.Reasonable price and get the job done...they have a decent pouch which lasts too....around 40-50 i think.
As for the black magic ones and the clones you see.....they come out of the same factory in china but you pay more for the black magic logo(best thing about these are they are grunty and the braid cutters are good...good for big rings)....the worst thing is the pouch wears holes and the jaws come undone and need tightening with allen key often....they are also pretty bulky.
I bought a paiir of jarvis walker ones for 5 aussie dollars the other day(in perth) and they work surprisingly good for small to medium size rings(jigging/popping/stickbaits)......they have a small hook on the tip and open the rings just enough to do what you need to do....with the black magic etc its easy to over stretch the rings with the big jaws which will eventually take its toll.
Once the idiots turn up..Im outta here...No time for Drama Queens.

Thanks guys, some good tips as usual.  I'll see what my local tackle shop has, like the look of the Berkley ones.  No problem opening the rings with the rovex ones I have, they just don't open them quite far enough to get larger gauge hooks and rings onto them.

Owner GP70 best pliers I have used,hidden windknot tool also.Only downside is they will rust if you do not look after them.
