OK, I've got the hang of the PG now, do I attach the swivel with a good old uni knot or is there a better way?  Would it be a good idea to put a plastic bead on the leader before the swivel, just thinking if I'm reeling something in quickly and get carried away I don't want to damage the eye.

Also, can the PG knot be used instead of a PR knot for jigging.  It seems much easier to tie and doesn't require any tools.

I assume you mean the FG knot, this a a great friction knot when tied well...

Just use a Uni knot, if the swivel gets that close your lure will also be at the tip top too...A plastic bead won't save you, you need to stop reeling!?!

Yes you can use the FG for jigging.

you don't ever need to wind it hard up to the guides, if there's no fish on stop winding once the lure is correct lenght from tip to cast again. You don't want to be opening your bail arm each time to get the right length of leader to cast again.

I thought it was braid, leader, swivel, split ring, lure. That's just what I picked up on threads here.

The split ring set is an alternative for changing lures without having to shorten your trace each time you want to tie another lure on.
Guess the swivel can be added if you wish to troll lures.

Personally i just cut and tie knots. If your FG knot is sweet there should be no concern about this winding up through guides. Actually will be wound onto reel with a few turns of trace on top at casting stage. Normally about 3 to 4 metres of trace.

Kevin you will find there is different strokes for different folks. You will find what suits your style and works for you.

A swivel can be added, I use a NT 1/0 when not tying direct to a lure. Some tie to a solid ring and then attach via split ring.

I cast with braid on my finger, some cast with wraps on the spool...

Get out there and go hard, and learn to cast both left and right handed it will come in handy.
