I've been struggling with idea of best Reel to get for heavy duty topwater PE6-8 to suit MC Works Seven Miles 868HR

- Twin power SW10000 a little cheaper to obtain than Stella, have read they're alot more complicated inside. Good drag & capacity, relatively light
-Stella SW10000, seems to be the go-to for majority, heaps drag & light, but have been seriously looking at cheaper options:
-Older blue SW10000HG second hand, with extra spools/braid/etc from ebay. With all the extra's
would seriously save a ****e load from buying new SW + extras
-10000 FA off trademe, would save a bundle, heavier than new SW, high ratio, but older again
-Saltiga Z6000GT, these are relatively cheap new locally, ton of drag & capacity & high ratio, little heavier than Stella's. Older model
-New Saltiga's , the 5000H seems a little light in the drag dept? 6500....huge!  Massive pricetag, but who has one? was it worth it?
-Dogfight, huge reels, this sort of capacity justified for topwater?
-New 2013 Stella....won't wait that long
-Catalina H, save a buck still & Still solid reel

I know there's been a ton of threads Saltiga vs. Stella and the like, will work my way back and check over.
I've got a different set up for lighter top water work, this is for 3 Kings / Ranfurly / White ,hang on to your hat type stuff.

I welcome all opinions on the matter, experiences be it good or bad on any of the pre-mentioned reels, best places to buy be it locally or offshore.
Welcome offers via PM for any reels that fit the description.

I just bought a TwinPower 10000SW this morning from GoFish $749. A bargain in my eyes. Going to spool it with 60LB JB hallow braid. I going to use it on the islands to taget GT. The 22kg drag more than enough. Was looking at the 6500 Dogfight but prefer the lighter reel.

Being a gear head of medium proportions, I own/have owned a few of those reels. All of them will do the job!

Personally would be happy to buy the older Shimano over the older Daiwas as parts are probably a bit more readily available, but they dont break much. there are also very good prices around on some run out older series Catalinas still sitting in some e shops.

Personally prefer the Stella 10000 or the Twinpower 10000. Dont worry too much about exact reel weight cause if you are casting a lot the weight of the rod and the weight of the lure are more important than the weight of the reel.

The new Daiwas are light and good casters and very sexy, they also have a manual bail arm which makes the 'bail snap over lure going round your ears thing' less likely to happen....

The only casting reel I own that I would consider buying two of is my Stella 10000SW.
I always tell the truth about things that never happened

X 2 for the Twinpower 10000 deal from gofish. I got the last one at of the first 4 the bought in. Looks like they got the second lot.

Definately easier to work with all day , good speed and 15 kg drag. I put amigo 80 lb braid on it, same dia as 50.

Have the dogfight for special occasions.

Shimano are dropping the twinpowers (maybe just in NZ? dont know), thats why they are on sale, you wont find them any more after this run of sales... Smart had them for $679.... I was SOOOOO tempted to buy another but couldnt justyify it....

I would buy a stella sw 10000 in NZ(get 10 year warranty as well)..You also have the option of buying a jm monster spool as a spare which holds a lot more line than the stella spool and heaps of drag.....SW18000 is good too but a much bigger and heavier reel....I bought my sw 10,000 from e bay usa and got stung 140 bucks by customs for duty...even though its second hand(which sucks)...so my advice =Dont risk buying a stella from e bay anywhere!Wink...you have a 50/50 chance of getting stung for duty.
You could wait for the new stellas to come out for these reasons=
1..See if they have improved them beyond what they already offer.Gives you some time to save up for it too.
2.Might drive down the older versions new price.
Good luck broWink
