Anyone doing it or thought of doing it?

Was just thinking about how far I can chuck a 5oz sinker surfcasting and some poppers being in that weight range...

surfcasting with poppers works well in the pacific islands :)

That's how I started out with lures.... I had a fascination with how the US Striper Fishermen would cast plugs all day for Striped Bass.

You will lose a bit of distance with a plug/lure compared to the aerodynamically shaped lead, hooks etc detract from the distance too but you can still punch em' out there.

Needles or Pencil Poppers are good for distance, and if you do any slide-baiting with live baits it's a good idea to cast lures near your live bait.
