Yes.

Take a few chugger types, halco roostas are good cheap ones, if you can find them, a couple of yo-zuri surface bulls, smaller ones, R2C Bubble-pops and the middle sized dumbbell, for stick baits, a couple of star walkers, a couple of r2c wideglides and a couple r2c doggies. Oh, and a r2c rover to have somethnig large and different in the mix.
Braid to mono or fluro trace. For poppers, don't be quite so concerned about wire.

number of lures could be dictated by weight limits for luggage and also number of days fishing planned,  I will be endevouring to take a dozen or more with me next time we head to the islands (if I can sneak them in the luggage without the cook noticing).

I took a number of lures to aitutaki in June and lost quite a few in the reef - (bit to soft co*k on the drag).

I found some lures cast alot better than others and you want distance and accuracy as well as good fish attracting action.

I would recommend that you get a few individual lures initially and shoot down to the local jetty and try them out for casting and action, this may save you taking lures that you don't end up using.

For me I found the river 2 sea dumbell lures cost effective ($20.00) cast well and attracted the fish.

Halcos pulled the fish well but did not cast as well for me.

I took one preloved nomad cubera (purchased 2nd hand) over as well and it cast really well, popped well and in the 6 casts had 4 follows before being swallowed by a big black GT that took the lure straight into the reef.
If money is not an issue I would be looking to take a few cubera lures over as well.  These same lures seem to be marketed under a few different brands - nomad, darkstar, blackjack, el toro.

I wouldn't bother with wire unless you thought you were likely to get wahoo, which are generally out over the drop off and I feel are more likely to hook up on a stick bait than a popper.

We are off to the Chesterfield reef in 5 weeks, no tackle shop near so i am taking about 30 jigs and 30 poppers/stickbaits.
I might have Alzheimer's, but at least I don't have Alzheimer's.

take as many as you can. if you get into decent gt fishing you will be busted off a lot. any lures that you do not use are great gifts for locals as there are not many places to decent tackle in the islands, locals really appreciate this sort of stuff.

no need for wire for normal reef species such as gts.

strike pro, gt hunter/monster are also other cheap options that work well.

i personally like oversize big cup face poppers, like the halco rooster, cuberas etc as others have mentioned already.

often location/terrain/casting in the right spots is more important for gts than lure selection (within reason)
