I,ve plumbed in a wash down hose, tee,d off with a hansen fitting from my livebait pump which is located in transom pod beside bilge pump. As i suspected it is of pee dribble pressure (the pump is only 500gph), so thought a quick way to rectify would be to replace with a rule 2000gph, one guy said yep that will do it but then another told me i need pressure not volume, so i guess i need a separate dedicated wash down pump 50psi or thereabouts. correct? appreciate your thoughts cheers

yes separate washdown pump is ideal. you can run the rule pump but you will need to reduce the size of the outlet going the washdown pump, fit a 3 way tap but the fitting going to the washdown pump must be the size of the hose which can be done by using reducer fittings from hansen.

also the proper washdown like a jabsco has a pressure switch inside it so when the hose is off the pump turns itself off into 'idle mode'

Best wash down system I had was on my last boat and was a bilge pump using bilge pump hose approx 1 inch diameter. It didn't have any pressure - but heaps of flow. Everyone who used thought it was the best system they had used. The reason why your current one comes out a dribble is due to small hose restricting the flow. Bilge pumps cant cope with pressure (or restrictions)
I currently have a Jabsco pressure system but would like to change it to a bilge pump which provides heaps more volume of water. Try washing down your boat with one and you likely won't go back.
500 gph is a heap of water and even pressure systems don't blast off dried on bait - they still need to be scrubbed

Ok footey i,ll swap my 500gph pump for your jabscoLOL. nar seriously guys thanks, i kinda gathered the restriction thing but good to have reassurance. so a couple of different opinions.. Now i just got to decide to get some reducers and grunty rule (quicker and cheaper option) or buy a jabsco (which i see are about $288 for the 45psi kit) and re plumb my old set up back to normal and do a whole separate system for the jabsco. sort of wanted to keep the clutter down hence the attempt teeing off the livey pump oh well. I already have the jabsco blue coil hose so should utilize that but i hear what your saying footey. i want the spray/ pressure for those pesky birds tooAngry
