Hey Gituys,

of to Pauanui on the 12th for a week staying at a family members holiday house :)

I'm super keen to try fishing some spots but truth be told I know nothing of the area I'm at home with my local spots which usually produce a fish or two to keep me happy :)

I'm please fairly easily lol. My Wife Is 4 months pregnant as well so A nice easy option with a chance of a fish would be nice BUT... for 2 days while she sees a friend and some family I will be left alone to fish were I please so any spots that require a nice hike suit me :)

I'm not after anyones spot X but if someone could be so kind to point me into the right direction I will get my backpack berley and boots and head for the distance ;)

An obvious choice would be Pauanui beach but not entirely sure whether is worth it or not?.

Not fussed at all what I catch something that put up a fight would be great would love a kingfish or trevally though haha.

More than happy to return the favour if anyones up for a coast fish or keen for the Mahu area.

Cheers Pauly

Hi mate, if you have the inclination, try spinning at the mouth of the harbour for kahawai and kings. It's very much a wet wade, so wear togs, and of course take care with currents etc, (although I didn't find it particularly risky when I did it).

When I went I only had trout gear and caught a heap of smallish kahawai and one horse.

There were 5 giant stingrays working the mouth, and a rat king following, waiting for little flounder to be flushed out. I briefly hooked the king on a small rapala, but after a blistering dash he spat the two trebles.

I'd love to go back there and have a go again with fly or poppers some day...

Yep that mouth of pauanui and Tairua can be fun, probably quite busy this time of year, but worth a spin. Sailers is a fishy sort of place if you head north around the rocks on a low tide. Good luck.

as JK says, there's an easy track around the headland, or head around the base of paku, best to check out on a dropping tide

Yep south end of Pauanui Beach. A mate landed a horse of a king, fluke i say LOL

We have also done very well walking out the base of Paku fishing into the channel, you dont have to walk out to the point just walk past the marker and you will see a rocky part sticking out further then the rest. Walk out and half tide

Update a lot if kingfish being caught at the moment although none by be see. Four landed in two days to my horror seen 3 landed at oaky by the same guy I hooked up and got taken under wharf weathers beautiful just brought a flounder setup so going to try a spear later tonight, also seen a guy getting death to of pauanui rocks by a maybe 20kg king. There are next to no snapper at the moment or decent siZe kahawai just baby's and rock cods locals saying worst fishing in twenty years but the kingfish are going hard hoping I can hook one!
