I have been using 80lb Rainbow braid for casting things, like stick baits, poppers. I have found that it tangles a lot - and the tangles are bloody awful to get undone - the best way is to cut it all out!
I assume I should stick to 80lb as I want have a good chance of catching seriously powerful things like big kingies and Giant Trevalli. So - I would like to hear what others have experienced - what 80lb line should I go for.

Tuffline works OK, but the best for me is Varivas Avani GT SMP, PE 8 but 120lb. Expensive though.
I might have Alzheimer's, but at least I don't have Alzheimer's.

Dude seriously consider the Varivas GT braid it might be expensive but you pretty much eliminate wind knots. Wind knots are going to give you line breakages and you end up losing your stickbaits and $ that go with it.

Have found that wear from casting on the PR knot is minimal when using this braid.

You don't need much for topwater, I've got 150m PE5 (70lb) topshot on my twinpower 10000 and out of 600m spool at $350 thats only $90 per spool. I'll probably only have to re-spool once a season

PE6 Varivas GT is 80lb and PE7 is 90lb.

Also thinner smoother lines give you extra casting distance.

Other factor to wind knots are over filling spool, knot, rod and casting technique.

Found your retrieve action to be more important than casting technique. when your winding in the slack after the sweep, if its not tight enough on the spool it tends to fall off in a nice big chunky knot . this = very nasty mess. also found that this is compensated for with a lower braid level on the spool. I'm finding whiplash to be reel good.

Gday mate,

it may not be the braid itself, check that your spool is not too full,
when casting poppers and stick baits, you line comes off the spool at a fair rate of knots,
if your spool is too full it comes off in heaps instead of winding itself off.
I use suffix performance 80lb and have no issues.

all the best

After the good comments above - I have bought from Yeehaa, a 600m reel of Varivas Avani GT 80lb/PE6. Cost $359. I expect great things from it.
Second - I take the point that retrieving braid thats loose, can cause subsequent tangle on the casting - ie it needs to be wound on under tension. Not always easy - but, obviously the faster the retrieve, the greater the tension.
Third - I have decided to avoid braid when fishing from rocks - as there is more likely to be abrasion, as the waves cause the line to wash around. ie only mono off the rocks. I will still use braid off a beach and (sometimes) a boat.  Basically, I think there needs to be a good reason to go to braid, as it has much more problems than mono.
