I know, that place, have surfcast off the beach at dusk & done well snaps to 10.2lb's..

At the moment bro who stays there, reckons brodys creek is doing very well & that big rock just off the beach works well during evening, string pullers there. just off the beach down by Urlich creek local spot good too.

I'm heading up there this weekend with a couple of mates (Grrr - clashes with the small boat forum trip). I'll be in my Marco 460, possibly launching at Matai Bay - are there any other ramps you can suggest (we'll have a Prado for launching)?

How's the fishing up there at the moment - we'll be using softies mainly and should we go deep or stay shallow?

Thanks

There is beach launching opposite the Top 10 holiday Camp at Whatawhiwhi, and from there you can venture left for reef action - or my fav, SP's along Tokarau beach at dusk - stay shallow, i.e 5 - 10m.

Easy beach launch at Rangiputa also, easier on a half tide, but can do any tide ok. The channel marker to the right of where you launch is an easy spot to find a feed. Or carry on out into Karikari Bay infront of Puheke in 20m...

Gotta love Matai though, I'm there over Easter for a week and can't wait!!!

Cheers guys agree with speedy, drift tokarau at dusk, but early in the morning also change of light they come on good, (snappers and big ass travally,) chart pepper neons do the damage. Huge kahawai work ups at the moment too and there bloody big kahawai's really nice smoked, even caught one off the beach with my sp rod. Sux to leave returning easter weekend with mates 7m boat keen to try the moturoa islands, will get some pics up tonight.

Sufishent... launching at Rangipta will allow you access to great exhibition bay... directly out from Puheke and drift in 70-80 feet of water with softies and squid bait is the flavour of choice...  (pillies oks)... (Just make sure you park above the high water mark)  whatuwhiwhi.. easy beach launch...  for doubtless other side..  taipa all tide ramp.. mangonui... all tide with pontoon...
