Hi Fella's

Don"t know if anybody has tried this stuff. But it certainly has promise. I have been experimenting with it.  And you can make anything you like from heads to lifelike crabs, shrimps etc. It can be rolled real thin, and would make ideal crabs legs for true flys.  It comes in varied colors. But I use translucent and simply paint with a cheap set of Acrylic paint. Then finish with nail polish. Very effective to say the least.

The process I use is to tie the flashabou or whatever to the hook. Then mold the head around it. As you can work with it, you can make indentations for the eyes. Fix up small mistakes, well do anything.  As it needs to be baked in the oven at 130c to 150c for 10 to 15 minutes to set it. Well of course the tail is going to melt or burn. I tried that, but did get a nice crinkly tail with flashabou, actually it was a good effect.

However to preserve the tail, I wrapped strips of wet newspaper around it, then a bit of tin foil.  And when it was baked well there was the tail preserved.

Havent been there yet but you could just make the head, then bake, then do the tying.

The options are endless.  It does not set firmly to the hook, however a little superglue at both ends took care of that. Eyes can be superglued or expoxied, superglue worked for me.

At around $3.00 a block it is cheap.   Maybe 30 heads a block. You can taper the body, give it a fat belly, whatever you want.

I made the one in the picture on a toothpick as it is designed to be used as a flasher for me. But have also made ones on a hook.  I am a surfcaster, not a fly fisher but we are distant cousins Big%20smile.

I added a little silver belly with T Shirt Paint.

Clark, thanks for putting me on the right track, I downloaded your eyes, and then made up three sheets of my own designs using Microsoft publisher, so I now have eyes of all sizes and color variations.  I am not a perfectionist and neither are the fish we target.

Have a go at this stuff guys I think you will like it. You can mold away to your hearts content.  Oh yeh when I put it in the oven I used a small vice to secure it. That way it all holds together, the hook does have to be supported, so the body retains its shape in the heating.

And if you have been there done that, well I was a little behind you. But I have been right through this forum and found nothing that mentions Du Kit.

Oh yeh local model shop or stationers, and they have a website. Search Du-Kit on Google

Cheers Trev
