What jigs do you guys find the best for guys who jig much slower (due to age, fitness, etc) and still work really well on the kingies.

I have fished with a few guys who cant keep up with the physicality of hard out mechanical jigging, not just the speed factor, but also the 'snap' factor when lifting the rod (which is most definitely a requirement in my book). They dont catch as many fish as the faster and more crisp [crisp?LOL] jiggers, and it would be really nice to know of a few jigs I could recommend that would still do the business at more feeble speeds.

I know the bluefox 250g have loads of built in action (even after putting them in the vice to straighen the little b*stards out a bit LOL), but 250g doesn't quite cut the mustard in anything over 60-70m.

Advice anyone?

the zest curved sliders require less energy to make them work but I think they only go to 300gm so it would need to be a calm day to get em down that far

Yeah, thats what I figured.

One which I want to give more of a try is those 30cm soft plastic squid with a 16Oz sinker rammed up its arse and used as a jig. I think this would be interesting ay.

I would love curved sliders to go up to 400g, and same with the hardy longs.

River2Sea have a jig which is pretty much fits the bill.........Only goes to 200g though. They use a Sea Rock Jig inside the plastic squid....can't see why you coudn't do it with the bigger Sea Rocks up to 500g

You just described me and something I have been doing is to give the rod a good heave and then wind down 2 turns. I also use centre weighted jigs on my overhead and bottom weighted jigs on my stella and again use the heave and two spin methoed.Seems to work well enough for me.

A lot more practice and I may "get" the mechanical action right but for now its just ends in miss timing and a mess. Never been well corordinated with my handsConfused

I find sticking the rod in the gimble and using a long upward sweep and a couple of cranks,  a la the Boulder method, works great on the centre weighted jigs like the Zest 400 gm super deep. In fact some days I think it's more deadly than the normal MJ style.
CONFIDENCE: The feeling you have before fully understanding the situation.

All i would do Ben is give em a deep slim or jigstar jig, these ones come back up through the water a bit easier, they dont necassarily work better at slow speeds but they will not wear the anglers out as much. Get em to work on technique, if they get it right it wont matter that their not going flat out. Better rods and reels help as well keep everything as light as possible, the new Hots rods that Chris is getting will be ideal, they have heaps of grunt and are much lighter than a JM or a Tcurve.

I made mention of this earlier, I am certainly no expert but have found while the "expert types " tend to hook up a tad more regular, the spastic type jigger or indeeed the granddad still account for fish, so don't frett to much on jig type or action just drop the metal over the side and don't be too critical, I am almost positive the first time someone tried the mechanical method they would have been laughed off the boat, no method or action is stupid, and you just never know what the hell is going to work on the day Wink
