Just now while sitting on the crapper I was looking over chart 522 when I noticed a very fishy looking structure/reef/rise (?????) that is in the middle of the no fish/anchor telecom area n/e of lil barrier. I figure you could get away with bottom fishing here but I wouldnt risk it. But what say drifting a livie or towing lures etc?? I would do that... what I am getting at is would the authorities really have a problem if you were not anchored and you gear was nowhere near the bottom, but you were fishing??? If you have chart 522 check it out..."oh my inshore game fish spot"!!!!!!  Rises to 30 odd meters out of 50 odd.
So you're a feminist... How cute

l@l@ndi, Telecom don't mind you fishing that area, have talked to a pilot that was circling the area for Telecom trying to get in contact with another boat that was anchored and he was not impressed with the guy as it is clearly marked on the map, but he never said anything to us about drift fishing the reef......... so viewed this as ok by them.......... the area is know as Nor Western Reef..... same place i caught that 31lb snapper........
Thanks for everything you did for us Eric. may you rest in peace, You were one of the real legends of NZ recreational fishing

sorry somehow my message didnt get up there was tryin to get rid of that java script crap thats on there and change the gurnard quote its lookin a bit tired anyway what i had said was i always figured 'spot x' was nw reef goin by all the crptic messages flyin around awhile back and yes pleny people anchor there includin the odd charter boat and my mate who caught a 33lb puka there using snapper frames as berley!?!! apparently they send planes up to patrol the area but i havent heard of any boats goin missing so i figure they aint usin torpedos yet as for me ive tried findin it but its a long way from Algies Bay in a 16ft boat with no GPS and after lookin around on the sounder for a while i usually head back into lil barrier after wastin a tank of gas remind myself to get GPS and catch some fish,its a stupid place to put a cable anyway why does the no fish zone have to be kilometres across, anyway everyone fishes that area off taka reef/black rocks and the courts dont appear to be clogged with prosecutions ,dont use this as an excuse im just a computer illiterate algies bay hillybilly <SCRIPT language=javascript>postamble();

I have fished the Nor West Reef 3 or 4 times from a charter boat, we were definately anchored. Mind you it was about 15 years ago, how long has it been no anchoring?

It certainly holds a variety of fishes.

Lethal,

I agree, that pin needs to have a drop on it. Has to have a puka or 3 i reakon, I would think a big snapper or two might hang out there as well. I have seen some big snapper come of North Reef at the knights, so I would expect that pin to produce.

Craw,

glad to see a neighbor on here. Spot X is not north west reef. Spot X is closer to Algies than that. If you see me at the Algies boat ramp introduce your self and I might just tell you where it is.

Lethal,

i think i know the pin you are talking about and if it is the one I know of someone who goes there occasionally and usually gets a couple of nice puka.
