Have heard of it being done, but never actually seen it. Post pics when finished fishm.

Also had a mate down the coast reckon they're using a small tree shredder from bunnings as a berley mincer. Think they're bout $50. I thought he might of been telling porkies, but I guess it could work?

..
Hi Roto... well here's my effort for today...work in progress....The bench is made out of treated timber from fencing materials ....Just had fence done for the new house and kept all the left over timber... picked up the Dual S/S bench and near new waste disposal for 90 bucks from a demolition place in Whangarei... whole thing weighs a ton.. Big%20smile so rock steady solid...  We are on tank water so can't outlet the waste into a drain hole... I will make a netting setup for the sink outlet to catch all the scales... will just cable tie it on and when full of fish scales , will just cut it away and into rubbish..  will dump water from catch bucket into vege garden... The waste disposal has a quick release so it will only be a matter to remove the unit and clean it out occasionally. Reckon the fish skin could be a problem when making burley so will skin everything where possible and chop the rest into chunks... and feed it slowly... Want to make sausage style burley bombs and will freeze them ... might take a few beers to make it an enjoyable experience on those windy days that make fishing uncomfortable... Evil%20Smile

Friend of mine also uses a tree shredder to mince his burley. He freezes all his fish scraps, and then throws them into the the shredder frozen. Works a treat.

Cheers for the feedback fellas... Now has a floodlight stand..an easy access switch for the waste disposal.. and a switch for the light.. have a couple of hansen fittings rigged up for the cold water and just need to add the faucet to finish off... keep her indoors happy with no more fish scales in the house kitchen... Approve.. just need to catch some fish now...  next project... fish smoker....

I run a similar setup but have found that the insinkerator munches quite fine so will be now also adding chunks in afterwards before freezing.
No need to remove skin the insinkerator will handle it.

AquaMaid  (waste disposal manf in U.S.A.)  used to make the ChumMaid - a water-powered burley grinder (basically a water-driven heavy duty waste disposal) to go on boats.
but it needed something like 2.6 bar or 40 p.s.i. water pressure (which is higher than many boats deck washes) to work well.

I think it had "self sharpening" blades but don't know if ordinary waste disposals have them anyway ?

now there's a thought:- smoked burley  (we call it "pate" over in the posh side of the World  LOL  )

you will probably have to seive the water off before you freeze it so its more solid or you will end up with 80% ice
what happened to the pissing man?

I started with a burley mincer
Fine foe basic frames, come to partly or frozen heads, larger tails and fins and skin no go
Had a waste disposal come with my SS bench unit.
 Basically same as above.
One saves up KY/ mullet/ king heads frames.. chop the heads thru, throw out the tails....far better than the mincer, but still a mission to put thru 50 odd kg,  un jam
The old electric garden mulcher way to go.. chomps thru large muscle hell kina, skins, partly frozen heads etc
Still pre cut the tails.. they get stuck in the burly pot net
Pack into square milk bottle containers..that way more for the space
Clean down surprisingly simple IF done when finished.. not let dry.
2 ppl 2.5 hrs around 35/40 x 2L containers... from finishing a coffee , set up, mulch, pack off, clean up and a shower.
Better instructions and pics in similar, more recent threads on the subject.

Cheers
The only bar to frequent is the Kawhia Bar

just need to keep the blades sharp

I find the top semi vertical just need a reasonable edge.. the blades in the rot the edge gets rounded off from the top.. so its not so much sharp but the edge below the rotor.
Mutcher blades are not cheap.. so I run a bead on the mig welder, form a new edge.. almost.. put on the bench grinder.. (this heat kills any quenching  hardness if quench after welding ) then another small 'finish' bead under that to heat the blade edge up and quench and sharpen with a file.
I get a good 150/ 200 kg out of a sharpen... 4 or 5 fish bins un packed

PS I do the final edge around 35 deg
