Being school holidays and all decided to take the kids out somewhere local this morning.
Launched at browns Bay and headed for Murrays Bay reek all of about 1-2km south. On the way passed someone fishing offf the point on Southern end of Browns Bay rocks. He hooked up and landed something decent - looked like a kahawai or snapper but not bad for mid morning in very shallow water.
Anyway got to the reef . Plan was for kids to have a ball on the local yellowtail population and supply me with a livie for a John Dory. Also the odd butterflied mackeral would be drifted out the back.
Everything going to plan , with plenty of yellowtail coming aboard then the Barracuda arrived. One by one we lost all but one hook on the sabiki but my youngest managed to land one of the little buggers. About a foot and a half long sharp teeth and all.
Not one snapper bite! Very unusual as you normally get a few undersize snapper but not one. Tried squid , yellowtail , cuda of course but nothing.
Nice to be out there this morning though , penguins etc and anough fish to keep the kids busy. Snapper must only feed here at present very early or late in the day. Had good berley too - the cuda found us no problem. No john dory strikes either.

Good luck Joseph.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi Russ,
Was planning to go out yesterday morning but the missus tempted me to stay home. However, all the horses in the world would not be able to stop me this morning, so started fishing at 6.15 am at the red marker off Browns Bay.
Man, it was really freezing. The moon was big and round and bright and it was on its way down, so that was encouraging. Didn't use any berley following your advice. No bites at all. As it was the top of the tide, I decided to sit tight till the tide turn. At about 7 a.m, there was a big tug and a strong run. Boated a 33 cm snapper. This was followed shortly by 6 more about the same size, all in the space of an hour.
At about 8.30, decided to pull anchor to go to the green marker to get some yellowtail to make some berley as I only have one ice cream container of berley left at home. Deployed berley at the bottom and got some spotties and yellowtail but no Mao Maos. Bagged 2 more red ones but these were of a lesser size than before. All up a very productive morning. Missus was very pleased as we haven't had fish for quite a while now.
You are the man Joseph!
I have lost the plot completely - will have to go with you or take you next time.
Should have gone there this morning intead of stanmore bAY.

I fish no sinker too in the shallows. Must remember to fish an area that has fish in it.
