Hi All, with Wiffy away for the weekend I hatched a plan with brother Mick to fish the Counties Manakau Icebreaker Comp, with the objective to try and catch a decent Snap each to hopefully make the top three in the Snap section and defend my last years winThumbs Up With 8's showing all day on Saturday on Swellmap we got an early start but a cold one! First up we fished for bait for an hour like normal and secured about fifteen Kahawai-see photo, then of to our spot. Very slow going first three hours, small ones only then as the incoming tide started getting good current, wasn't long before a good one sniffed out one of my big filletsBig smile. I called it a 20lb da to Mick as playing it in and went 9.20 kg. This is when we start cutting up the Kahawai bodies into big hunks that will sink in the current to were your straylines sit to keep them around boat. It worked a treat again and  in the next two hours we battled about a dozen good Snaps. anything under 9.20 went back and over we kept.  We managed one each in the 9.40's. We have a big barbless hook I quickly insert in snapper jaw dehook strayline hook all while still in water then scales through barbless eye lift out look at weight if going back a quick flick of the barbless and they rocket offWink
So off we went to Smudges Playground on Sunday for weighin. Called in here and there seeing mates on the way and arrived with our best Snaps and  Kahawai's. I just managed to hold Mick out for 1st in the Snap section! with third place going to one of the Manakau Boys with a nice 8.8kg fish. picked up a 3rd with kahawai as well. We were rapt, The Mokau boys produced the goods again in the little Mac Boat! Good to catch up again Smudge & co. Upon leaving Auckland We had arranged with an Island family we know to pick the fish up from the Karaka turn off. You should of seen how excited they were when they saw the size of them! Made there Day. A few photo's  Beer

Well done again Geoff. I hung around the weigh in on Sunday with the kids too wish I'd known you were up I would have sniffed you out.
Why choose either diving or fishing when you can do both. Besides crayfish tail is very good bait!!

Hi Stephen one of these days I will meet you! Didn't hang around after prizegiving due to long drive back to the Naki.

Thanks Smudge, I said to Mick before catching the 20's we had a couple around 7-8 kg I thought were not good enough to make the long drive to prize giving. Our patients paid off in the end, so up we came. Beer
