Here's a few pictures from Coro over the weekend. Saturday was for saying goodbye to a friend's mother who passed away last week. Sunday morning was for getting a line wet.

Te Kouma ramp is all tide. A 740 hardtop came in just after me without a problem. $10 a day or $90 a year.

Ramp pass is available at petrol station, bait shop and top catch in town. The shed is manned from 7am Saturday and Sunday. Not sure about week days. Sunday always seems to be much quieter at the ramp.

Forgot to mention, if you get an annual ramp pass, it covers quite a few ramps in the region.

Also, depending on where you buy your pass from it can be $10 cheaper ie $80 or $90
  • Annual permits will be in three colours depending from which area you purchase them, but this is only for monitoring purposes and all coloured versions can be used in ALL areas.
  • $90 per annum for the Coromandel Sugar Loaf Wharf (Te Kouma) permit
  • $80 per annum for Whitianga Wharf, Purangi and Matarangi boat launch/trailer parking permit
So save ten bucks if you buy it from the whitianga side.  Oh, and if you own a mooring, annual boat ramp pass is only $65.
If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito in your tent.

I love Te Kouma. My grandparents family had the first five houses in Te Kouma Bay. I spent a lot of time there as a young fella with my grand parents. Its is a very special place which I still enjoy with my family now. I love the fact that I can still catch kingfish in the spot that my grandfather showed me, scallops in my dads spot, snapper all over the place.

I love Doubtless Bay too, but Te Kouma will also have a special place within my family, and with me.

Harbour or Bay?

I too have some history there, although more history up near Amodeo.

I might well know you if it was the harbour you spent a lot of time in, one of 2 farms there.

I love the harbour. When all the yachties would come in, we would start bomb fire parties :-). A lot of fun in my teens.

Some good fish we use to get out of the heads south west. But there are good fish all over that part of Coro in spring. It almost feels like the snapper do a semi circle of the gulf between spring and autumn :-).

Update on Sugar loaf/Te Kouma ramp

Fee $11 launch only......Day pass Launch n park $33   can buy from BP or online

Advise was if going out 3 or 4 times buy a annual pass as can be used at all ramps except waikaua

Launched high tide Te Kouma no issue but coming back in onshore wind 10/12 from e exposed  nw

Dead low very shallow as needed to wade last 10m but easy enough to retrieve, take fenders as ramp side not forgiving and wash from harvesters.
